So far I have loved all of Tad William's books. I started with the Osten Ard novels and have now moved on to the Shadow novels. The only downside, but I am getting used to it now, is the narrator, whose speech rhythm and pronunciation is sometimes a little strange for my English ears.

What a story!

Wenn man Tad Williams kennt, weiß man, dass er nun einmal sehr weit ausholt. Osten Ard mit seinen Zauberschwertern war dabei allerdings recht kurzweilig, Otherland faszinierend, aber zu Shadowmarch bekomme ich keine Zugang. Nach dem ersten Teil, nach fast dreißig Stunden Hörzeit, kenne ich so ungefähr die Hauptpersonen, und weiß, dass das zentrale Land angegriffen wird. Shadowplay, habe ich dann nach einigen Stunden aufgehört. Ich meine, nach fünfunddreissig Stunden könnte doch mal etwas passieren.

Und so genial der Sprecher auch spricht, man braucht bei ihm recht lange, bis man versteht, in welchem Handlungsstrang man sich gerade befindet, da er meist ohn Punkt und Komma weiterspricht.

Story is confusing and could have been told in 5 hours. After the first part of the trilogy better ratings got me to get this too. But it's even less interesting. The narrator does a good job though but can't compensate the lack of a good story.

I am through two thirds of the second volume by now. I have hoped that it would get better, however, the story goes on and on and on... without any highlights. I am still waiting that something happens to push events. However, Williams lingers for pages (minutes) at every scene, no matter how insignificant. And there are many insignificant scenes. Each storyline, and there are many, creeps slowly along, and I have now idea where they are leading to, or if they will ever be connected. There is no hint of an overarching connection, just blurry indications. Often my mind trails off, and when it jumps back into the story I have not missed anything relevant. I am really patient and I rarely do stop reading (listening) a book before the end. But I do not know how much longer I can stand this mind numbing book of nothingness.
