I’m a man with too many secrets, so the last thing I need is a new roommate with a sexy smile and blue eyes that see right through me. Eight years ago, Roderick left town after high school. We’re not friends. I owe him nothing. But back then, I let one of my secrets slip, and he’s the only one who noticed.

Part of me knows I should run far, far away. But the other part wants him to come upstairs and spend the night. But if I let him in, I could lose everything.

I should probably add: gay AF, and has no filter. It’s no wonder my new landlord is so wary of me.

A smarter man would ignore those hot glances from the broody lumberjack. He may want more from me than another fresh-baked pretzel. But if I push my luck, I’ll end up back on the street.

Too bad I’ve never been smart with my heart....

A lovely story with relatable, heart-warming and nice characters. It's super well-written, had me teared up or laughing many times.
I only gave it 4 stars overall because the story is a bit underwhelming at times, and foreseeable and Sarina Bowen can do even better (like "HIM").

Still, I had a great time listening to it and can recommend the story whole-heartedly. There are few authors who write such good gay romance/erotic books.

Great new story

Overall I really liked the story and even laughed out loud a few times. Each character had their own little story/set of goals outside the obvious romance part, which I appreciated. Dialogs feels natural and so does most of the relationship and character developement.

Didn't dig the voice acting unfortunately. Kiran sometimes randomly changes from a raspy low voice to that one voice Stephen Dexter uses for almost every other character in this story. Teddy Hamilton does a bit better, but overall characters don't really have their own distinguishable voice. Intonation is fine though.
The last chapter is just one big ad for the sequel, which will probably follow a different couple/couple to be.
I did appreciate the lovely end credits though: Thanks, you have a wonderful day too!

Great written and narrated. Though I didn't know that it's the introduction of the Vino & Veritas series. Otherwise I would have listened to it previous to the complete V&V series...

Sarina Bowen was a new-to-me author, and this book came recommended by Audible after I’d read To Catch a Firefly — and it did not disappoint. It was funny, cute, and heartbreakingly beautiful.

Roderick completely stole my heart — such a lovely, layered character: kind, good-hearted, heartbroken, and unfiltered in the most hilarious way. My heart ached for him — when his parents denied him, when his relationship ended, when he had no one, no money, no home, and no job. Just when he was losing hope, he met Kieran — the burly, grumpy, Henry Cavill lookalike introvert who wasn’t sure about his sexuality until Roderick.

While both had their struggles, the book still felt lighthearted, filled with warmth and humor. Watching them find their way through life and to each other was just beautiful.

Roderick was truly such a special character to me. And the narration — perfection! Teddy Hamilton and Stephen Dexter are two of my absolute top-tier narrators, and they brought these characters to life so vividly. I enjoyed every single minute of this book.
