The Echoes of Fate, a Prophecy Uttered Unto the World a Thousand Years Ago, Cannot Be Denied....

Mankind has lorded over the land of Illian for a thousand years, building on the ruins left by the elves, as if it were their birthright. A thousand years is a long time for an immortal race to see the truth of things, a truth that has remained unsaid for a millennium - elves are superior. They are faster, stronger, and connected to the magical realm in a way that man could never grasp. Illian should belong to them.

Unaware of the shadow that looms in the east, the six kingdoms of man are fractured, unallied, and clawing at each other's gates for more power.

This isn't just war set to ravage the land, but a slaughter - the world of man cannot hope to survive.

Thrown into the heart of this war is a man known by many names; an Outlander of the wilds, an assassin, a ranger. Asher was born a thousand years ago, to a life he doesn't remember. Forty years of brutal training and killing for money has beaten the earliest years of his life away, leaving his ties to the oldest of evils a mystery to all....

The last fight scene was a bit lazy I found. It was all way too easy to defeat everybody and take the ring.

Engaging story

The most annoying part was the pauses between sentences frequently being too short. Either he edited those parts together and completly misjudged the timing or he didnt see the period, but it was horrible for immersion.
The narrator also frequently misread words. I should have counted how many times "Princess Reyna" suddenly turned into "Prince Reyna". I'm not sure how that can happen unless the narrator himself isn't following the story.
Personally I'm a fan of different voices for different characters, at the very least slight accents, but sadly this narrator reads every character pretty much the same, which makes his overall terrible sense for reading pace even worse.
Had I read some of the audible.com reviews that also mention how hard this narrator makes it to follow along in the story I would have stayed away from the audiobook from the beginning.

I use whispersync quite alot, about 10 audiobooks in the last month alone, but this was the worst performance I can remember. At this point I wish Nick Podehl could narrate every audiobook.
Even though the book itself has quite the slow start, once you plowed through it, is rather interesting. Probably going to read most of the rest of the series instead.

Nope on the narrator.

I rather like the setting and writing but the narrator made it hard if not impossible to enjoy the story. No noticeable distinction between charakters neither in accent or tone of voice. He's got a pleasant voice but gives the impression he'd really rather be doing anything but reading this book.
And to be honest I'd rather just keep reading the book and not listening to this. A real shame, it has much potential. The narrators style probably just isn't my thing but I couldn't bear to listen to this for more than 30 minutes.

Interesting story, narration ... not so much

In general the story is interesting, but the many lengthy fighting scenes are not my cup of tea. I am usually not a quitter, but in this case, I guess I will be and won‘t continue with the series.
And yeah, the narrator really could be better, put me to sleep several times.

Not my kind of Book
