Three murders. Multiple suspects. No proof.
Sixteen years ago, Alice's closest friend suddenly breaks off their friendship in the New Forest where they both grew up. And Alice's father inexplicably moves the family away to London.
All these years later, everything changes. Returning to her childhood home on the death of her grandmother, journalist Alice Myers finds a community in upheaval. The death of her friend Ellie is just the start. Her body washed up on the rocks looks, at first, like suicide. Alice is persuaded to write an obituary about Ellie as a way of unravelling the mystery of her death.
While her interest becomes obsessive, Di Neil Hunter pursues the investigation about this and subsequent murders. Is a serial killer on the rampage? Who will be the next victim? But it is only when they begin working together that the truth emerges about this isolated community and its harrowing past and present. A truth even Alice can scarcely believe.
