endlich habe ich das Hörbuch konsumiert. Space ohne cock&bull, brilliant erzählt. Der unaufgeregte Sprecher bringt die wissenschaftlich beobachtende Athmoshpäre perfekt rüber. Nichts für Leute, die klassische Suspense erwarten. Perfekt für mich.

versteh nicht ganz wieso niemand moniert das dieses Juwel nicht auf deutsch erscheint? was seid ihr denn für Typen? in Englisch ist das ganze doch viel schwieriger und bringt niemals den hörgenuss für native deutsch Hörer . wann darf man denn mit der deutsche Version rechnen liebe Audibles?

Dieses Buch ist nicht umsonst eines der wenigen Science-Fiction-Romane, welches drei von drei der renommiertesten Science-fiction Auszeichnungen erhalten hat.
Inhaltlich geht es, stark zusammengefasst, um den Kontakt und dem Umgang mit einer außerirdischen Zivilisation.
Es ist sowohl inhaltlich als auch sprachlich brilliant, obwohl es aufgrund der tendenziell eher wissenschaftlichen Darstellung der Beobachtung, recht anspruchsvoll ist und eine hohe Informationsdichte enthält. Die wissenschaftliche Darstellung ist jedoch nicht, wie man vielleicht annehmen könnte, trocken und langweilig, sondern gibt dem ganzen ein realistisches Fundament, und regt zum Nachdenken an. Auch sein hohes Alter (45Jahre) ist dem Buch inhaltlich nicht anzumerken. Dieses Hörbuch ist auch der Grund, weshalb ich persönlich Fantasy durch Science-fiction ersetzt habe. Jeder Science-fiction und wissenschaftlich interessierte sollte dieses Buch gehört/gelesen haben.

Unterhaltung mit Anspruch

Wer Science fiction mag und ein wenig Ahnung von Naturwissenschaft hat wird dieses zeitlose, im Vergleich nüchtern und realistisch gehaltene Buch für eins der besten "Zukunftsprognosen" bzw "Alienkontakt-Geschichten" halten, die bisher geschrieben wurden.

A classic science fiction book and one of the better ones at that.
An identified object appears rushing in the solar system with its orbit approximation showing a quick flyby and then moving on, humans scrambling to send a mission to it for exploration in any way possible and finding out it is some kind of gigantic empty alien spaceship/ecosystem... Sign me in!
The whole premise and mystery of Rendezvous with Rama are undoubtedly great and the book is really to the point. The science and physics are presented in a cold but simple way, giving just enough information and explanation for the reader to grasp the concept but never tiring them with extras.
Characters are not the focus but more a medium to move the plot so don't expect to shed any tears over any character development.
Unfortunately in my opinion the stakes were never extremely high and the tension, even in situations where it should be spiking, was just not enough.
The book did keep my attention though, with its sterile way of narration, almost like a documentary, it helps the reader navigate the new and alien environment of Rama almost without the influence of the characters and events and as if they were there themselves.
This could have easily been in anyone's top10 sci-fi books list if it had a bit more punch to it. But as it stands, Rendezvous with Rama remains a gatekeeper.
Unfortunately, the narrator also follows Clarke's way of writing in his way of narration. The voice was a bit robotic and cold as if the narrator was not invested in the story, making most of the characters seem pretty apathetic and not helping at all in the low-high stakes situations mentioned earlier.
