The book gives a good overview of the history of the Middle Ages. And it doesn’t just limit itself to the names of rulers and of famous battles, but it includes an account of social, economic and cultural developments. Nothing groundbreaking, but a good overview.
The audiobook would have benefited from a professional narrator, though. Instead, the author read the book himself. The result is ok, but it could have been much better. And as the book predictably contains many French, German and Italian place names it would have been very helpful if the narrator had worked out the correct pronunciation. Currently it is at times impossible to identify the place names from their pronunciation.
Still a good book, but with weaknesses.
