Other than the film, the book concentrates much more detail to the life of Philomena Lee‘s lost son Anthony, later Michael Hess, than to Philomena herself. It is a startling testament to the hypocritical Catholic Church, Republican party and society of the time. A heartbreaking story, brilliantly written, and read without pathos but with feeling.
