On the eve of his first American trip as leader of the Catholic church, Pope Francis participated in an historic “virtual audience” on August 31, 2015 with Americans gathered in three locations: Chicago, Los Angeles and along the Texas border. Joined in the Vatican by David Muir, anchor of ABC’s World News Tonight, the Pope held a conversation with an audience that was at times emotional and passionate. Pope Francis remarked about issues of global significance and human interest, including immigration, poverty and education. The Pope also revealed deep empathy as he interacted with ordinary Catholics who have faced extraordinary challenges.
This virtual audience represents a moment in time and was produced by ABC News Radio for its award-winning Perspective program. This audio version exclusively for Audible includes the content from Perspective plus additional material from the virtual audience that was not used on the radio broadcast.
