I love Sandi Toksvig, but there was very little in this book that I didn't already know and so I didn't get much out of it. However, it's certainly worth a read if you're unsure about how to behave in a thoughtful and decent manner. Her gentle warmth is soothing, but it just wasn't what I was expecting. Not asking a larger woman if she's pregnant or refraining from asking a pregnant lesbian where she sourced the sperm are guidelines that should be obvious. (Though to some, perhaps not.) Sandi's advice is presented as if in a letter to her niece and it reads as though it were intended for young people who haven't yet learnt to navigate society. For an old dog who was raised with manners, it holds little of interest. Yet Sandi's voice is always comforting (this was the audiobook) and I enjoy listening to her. I just didn't feel that this book offered me anything new.
