Chiku Red is space-bound: blasted into deep space to investigate Eunice Akinya's last journey, and maybe discover the final secrets of space travel.

Chiku Green is planet-bound: travelling thousands of lightyears to the planet Crucible. A new home for humankind; it's a habitable planet hosting a fascinating alien labyrinth.

As good as contemporary SF gets. (Jonathan Wright)
On The Steel Breeze is a brilliant, self-assured, colourful space opera- with talking elephants. (John Wyatt)
The book is not merely a sequel, but a standalone adventure with heart. (Val Nolan)
Clever, thoughtful, feel-good SF. (John Wyatt)
Alastair Reynold's On the Steel Breeze moved his ambitious Poseidon's Children's series into interstellar space. (Adam Roberts)

The book itself is great so far, and the narrator‘s basic voice easy to listen to. However, her interpretation of various accents and especially the merfolk makes me want to throw my headphones at the wall. The accents make it very hard to stay focused, and the merfolk blubbering slurpy sounds are actual misophonia hell. I‘m not sure I can finish this audiobook. Might need to get the book version :(

Narrator missed the mark

It's not the book.. I loved all previous books by the author. I just couldn't stand the narrator's interpretation.
Giving district voices to the characters is great.. but she made caricatures of most of them. Pseudo African dialects, blubbering merefolk.. the list goes on and on.
I feel like a book I might have liked, was ruined for me.

Couldn't finish it.. though I might have liked it
