Inhaltsangabe

The eagerly awaited sequel to the New York Times best-selling Words of Radiance, from epic fantasy author Brandon Sanderson at the top of his game.

In Oathbringer, the third volume of the New York Times best-selling Stormlight Archive, humanity faces a new Desolation with the return of the Voidbringers, a foe with numbers as great as their thirst for vengeance.

Dalinar Kholin's Alethi armies won a fleeting victory at a terrible cost. The enemy Parshendi summoned the violent Everstorm, which now sweeps the world with destruction and in its passing awakens the once peaceful and subservient parshmen to the horror of their millennia-long enslavement by humans. While on a desperate flight to warn his family of the threat, Kaladin Stormblessed must come to grips with the fact that the newly kindled anger of the parshmen may be wholly justified.

Nestled in the mountains high above the storms, in the tower city of Urithiru, Shallan Davar investigates the wonders of the ancient stronghold of the Knights Radiant and unearths dark secrets lurking in its depths. And Dalinar realizes that his holy mission to unite his homeland of Alethkar was too narrow in scope. Unless all the nations of Roshar can put aside Dalinar's blood-soaked past and stand together - and unless Dalinar himself can confront that past - even the restoration of the Knights Radiant will not prevent the end of civilization.

Kritikerstimmen

"Character development is at the heart of the book, and it is here that Kramer and Reading shine, with remarkably consistent and multifaceted characters that fuel the action of the story.... Adept pacing highlights both the intensity of hand-to-hand combat and quieter moments of sorrow and grief, fully realizing the intricate world that Sanderson has created." (AudioFile Magazine)

grossartig!

Ich wünschte, ich hatte die Serie erst später entdeckt. Jetzt muss ich wieder so lange auf den nächsten warten!
Sehr gut erzählt und nicht bloss vorgelesen.

Can't wait

I'm really looking forward to the next book and I believe this story will be an epic one. The people in 50+ years will probably still talk about this series!

Great book though sometimes quite long.

Really enjoyed the book. I ran out of steam toward the middle but returning to the second half was well worth it.

story? what story?

Unfortunately this book is a boring collection of day-to-day events surrounding the heroes of the stormlight archive books. However, I stopped listening halfway through the third part of the audiobook because there was no apparent plot to the story. I fear that this is another example of an excellent trilogy being expanded into a 5+ books cycle due to commercial reasons.

The next step, always the next step.

Oathbringer is at it's core a story about broken people in a broken world. The protector torn apart by wanting to protect all sides in a war, the tyrant trying to unite instead of conquer, the addict struggling to overcome himself. Flawed people always trying to take the next step.
As always beautifully narrated by Kate Reading and Michael Kramer Oathbringer is a masterpiece in a great series.

A bit underwhelming

The first two books of Stormlight Archive felt a bit childish compared to Mistborn series.
But I hoped that the third book would have the similar effect as the third book in Mistborn trilogy. However, i didn’t feel that the ending and the conclusion of the story wrapped everything nicely. There are just too many questions and uncertainties. And that would be fine if it would be the first or second book in the trilogy.
I wished the third book wrapped up the story better - grander.
