I loved the book and the characters! I'd definitely recommend it to every lover of a modern crime scene or unexpected plot twists. It doesn't get boring at any second!

Dieser Thriller, der sofort mit einem blutigen Mord loslegt, hat mich von Sekunde eins in Bann gehalten. Die Idee, dass ein Killer in unserer Zeit die grausigen Verbrechen von Jack the Ripper heraufbeschwört, ist sicherlich nicht neu, doch gewinnt Bolton dem Konzept eine ganz neue Variante ab, weil es ihr gelingt, die Hauptfigur und damit den Leser (Ich-Erzählerin!) mit diesen Morden sehr unmittelbar anzusprechen. Toll auch, wie sie es schafft, die noch immer gegenwärtige Faszination mit dem Ripper rüberzubringen - da hat Bolton viel Recherchearbeit erledigt. Gegen Ende hängt die Spannung etwas durch - doch die letzten Minuten sind wieder fiebrig und versprechen eine faustdicke Überraschung.
Leserin Lisa Coleman ist brillant; man muss aber vorgewarnt sein, dass sie in einem Dialekt liest, der vor "glottal stops" nur so wimmelt. Sie liest also nicht etwa "butter", sondern "bu'er" - da muss man sich erst reinhören; sicherlich nur etwas für versierte Englisch-Hörer.
Fazit: Ein Thriller, der sich durch die genial herausgearbeitete Protagonistin, einen packenden Spannungsaufbau und gute Recherche klar aus dem Einheitsbrei hervorhebt.

Sigh. Another detective with a traumatic past and potentially dangerous habits that takes way too many risks and routinely ignores her superiors’ orders. Another serial killer with an overly complicated MO and an equally complicated and far-fetched motive. Same old, same old… I don’t expect every crime writer to come up with something completely new and original with every new book they publish. I’m fine with a few well-known tropes, as long as the story as a whole remains (somewhat) believable and keeps my interest. “Now you see me” does have some entertainment value, but for the most part it’s boring. Boring, because I’ve read variations of it umpteen times. Boring, because detectives like Flint would never make it in the police service and because serial killers like this one simply don’t exist. I won’t give up on the series just yet (book series often get better with time), but I’m in no rush to buy and listen to the sequel.

The narrator’s performance was fine, I liked her voice and accent, and she doesn’t overact.
