Good Narration, Difficult Story

The narratiin reflects the tone of the book really well. I believe this book would be best if read, however, the audiobook makes it easy to finish it as reading such a book would take time. All in all, I would rate it 3.8 out of 5.

Great book and good speaker

I enjoyed listening to Orwell's masterpiece even more than I had enjoyed reading it some years ago. I liked the voice of the speaker which made the story easy to follow. Doubleplusgood!

Horrifying, well writen and read.

Don't listen to the end before bedtime, or you might get bad dreams.

When Winston reads the book, you can exchange war with crisis and have an frightning example of the EU's possible future.

The politicans being the inner party, being shure of it's necessaty and rightessnes, always cluging that power.
The teachers and professors as the outer party, trying to do right as it is expected for a glympse at the inner ranks.
The journalists as the youth, always listening and ready to throw you at the police for a single wrong word or movement.

Only one big difference, they have muddied the water between the prols and the enemys.
Wich of those are we suposed to be?

It reminded me about the importance of information, as long as we hang on to it as a mass, they can never get control.
I the majority of us, stop grasping for it, than they have found their prols and the rest of us will be declared the enemy.

In my quite large family, i would describe them in the following roles, if in the book:
1. Brother: Works well in the outer party, propably stops existing for uncontious thought crime.
2. Sister: Upper party, thought police. She knows how to trap young men and make themconfess inner thoughts, and is willing to do so.
3. Brother: Outer party, tortuerer, not enjoing the punishing but the control in full lust for simple power.
4/5.. Sister: Prols, never interested in politics or information of any kind that wasn't forced on them or dictated by god/big brother.
6. Brother: Outer party, easy influenced to self incriminat without knowing, propably by his wife.
7. Brother: Outer party, knowing something aint right but contioues enough to keep the head down and the mouth shut.

Myself: They would have gotten me much easier than winston, if i smelled the rotting, that is.
Equally as possible i could be an efficient outer party member.
I know what would wait in room 101 for me, i would not last as long as winston, i proppably would betray my dear mother last.

More up to date than ever

Disturbingly, this book is so up-to-date that just thinking about a possible future like this makes one shiver. Altering the past is ever so easy with all the digitisation going on. And a president, sorry, party trying to tell you what's true and what's not is already the present. very depressing.

Sehr angenehme Stimme & einzigartige Story

Der Sprecher des englischen Hörbuches hat eine sehr angenehme Stimme der man gut zuhören kann. Vor allem in den längeren Passagen, in denen sehr viel erklärt wird, war das sehr angenehm.

Das Buch selbst ist natürlich einsame Spitze! Wer eine gute Dystopie sucht sollte auf jeden Fall 1984 lesen und sich nicht davon abschrecken lassen dass es eine so bekannte Story ist. Denn George Orwell beweist hier wie auch in seinen anderen Werken, wie gut er den menschlichen Verstand, aber auch Gesellschaft und Politik versteht und das MUSS MAN GESEHEN HABEN.

Impressive and frightening

It is a remarkable story and very frightening comparing it to recent developments in the global theater, who seem to have studied this book in great detail and decided it was a great idea to implement it in reality.

Ich frage mich, ob daa Vorwort Robert Harbecks vielleicht ein Versuch von Sartire ist? Anders kann ich mir das nicht erklären.
