Truth! Justice! Freedom! And a hard-boiled egg!
Commander Sam Vimes of the Ankh-Morpork City Watch had it all. But now he's back in his own rough, tough past, without even the clothes he was standing up in when the lightning struck.
Living in the past is hard. Dying in the past is incredibly easy. But he must survive; he has a job to do. He must track down a murderer, teach his young self to be a good copper and change the outcome of a bloody rebellion. There's a problem, though: if he wins, he's got no wife, no child, no future.
This is a Discworld Tale of One City, with a full chorus of street urchins, rebels, secret policemen and other children of the revolution.
Please note: This is a vintage recording. The audio quality may not be up to modern day standards.
Kritikerstimmen
"British author Pratchett's storytelling, a clever blend of Monty Pythonesque humor and Big Questions about morality and the workings of the universe, is in top form...in the phenomenally bestselling Discworld series." (Publishers Weekly)
"Stephen Briggs's voices add dimension to the characters while avoiding exaggeration. He brings out the satire without compromising the subtlety of the humor.... The series is meant to be read aloud." (AudioFile)
"The author's talent for comedy does not falter as he continues to set the standard for comic fantasy." (Library Journal)

Geschichte
Somewhere on the frontier between thought and reality exists the Discworld, a parallel time and place that might sound and smell very much like our own, but which looks completely different. Particularly as it’s carried though space on the back of a giant turtle (sex unknown). It plays by different rules. But then, some things are the same everywhere. The Disc’s very existence is about to be threatened by a strange new blight: the world’s first tourist, upon whose survival rests the peace and prosperity of the land.

Geschichte
Finding himself alone on a desert island when everything and everyone he knows and loved has been washed away in a huge storm, Mau is the last surviving member of his nation. He's also completely alone - or so he thinks until he finds the ghost girl. She has no toes, wears strange lacy trousers like the grandfather bird and gives him a stick which can make fire. Daphne, sole survivor of the wreck of the Sweet Judy, almost immediately regrets trying to shoot the native boy.

Geschichte
In the 'fantasy' universe of the phenomenally bestselling Discworld series, everything runs on magic and common sense. The world is flat and million-to-one chances happen nine times out of ten. Our world seems different - it runs on rules, often rather strange ones. Science is our way of finding out what those rules are. The appeal of Discworld is that it mostly makes sense, in a way that particle physics does not.

Geschichte
A storm. Rain-lashed city streets. A flash of lightning. A scruffy lad sees a girl leap desperately from a horse-drawn carriage in a vain attempt to escape her captors. Can the lad stand by and let her be caught again? Of course not, because he's...Dodger. Seventeen-year-old Dodger may be a street urchin, but he gleans a living from London's sewers, and he knows a jewel when he sees one. He's not about to let anything happen to the unknown girl - not even if her fate impacts the most powerful people in England.

According to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch (the world's only completely accurate book of prophecies, written in 1655, before she exploded), the world will end on a Saturday. Next Saturday, in fact. Just before dinner. So, the armies of Good and Evil are amassing, Atlantis is rising, frogs are falling, tempers are flaring. Everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan.

Sadly a lot of faults in my version.
While it is a good novel by Sir Terry Pratchett,
there are a few things bugging me with this audiobook.
1. Mr. Briggs changed his voice he uses for Sgt. Colon, in regard to his tone used in Guards, Guards! (etc.)
2. There are a lot of audiobook errors in my version of this audiobook, having a lot of little "hiccups" and "jumps" making it not an enjoyable listen sadly...
EDIT: This problem was solved, and the audiobook is now very enjoyable. (except for Sgt. Colons voice, which I guess is a matter of taste)

Hervorragend

Amazing performance by the narrator!
I wonder why Audible requires me to compose a fifteen word review with headline if I want to comment on the work, but here you go, Audible. This is totally reasonable.

This audio book is great. Of course Terry Pratchetts story line and charakters ars marvelous and Stephen Briggs voice just adds to the fun. The quality is absolutly fine. All in all it is very hard not to enjoy this audio book.
