National Bestseller

Selected as one of NPR’s Top 100 Science Fiction and Fantasy Books of All Time

The #1 New York Times bestselling author’s wildly successful first novel featuring his new Neverwhere tale, “How the Marquis Got His Coat Back.”

Richard Mayhew is a young man with a good heart and an ordinary life, which is changed forever when he stops to help a girl he finds bleeding on a London sidewalk. His small act of kindness propels him into a world he never dreamed existed. There are people who fall through the cracks, and Richard has become one of them. And he must learn to survive in this city of shadows and darkness, monsters and saints, murderers and angels, if he is ever to return to the London that he knew.

“A fantastic story that is both the stuff of dreams and nightmares” (San Diego Union-Tribune), Neil Gaiman’s first solo novel has become a touchstone of urban fantasy, and a perennial favorite of readers everywhere.

“Delightful … inventively horrific.”

Neil Gaiman managed to give urban fantasy a new twist. “Neverwhere” is an incredible hotpot of bizarre characters and events, where the reader/listener is taken on a scary rollercoaster ride through the “underworld” of London. It is not always clear, where this is going, but you will enjoy the ride. It is not just thrilling, it is also outrageously funny at times. As a freebie, you get to listen to Gaiman’s great voice, reading the story to you.

Richard Mayhew, the protagonist, is a decent young guy, a little bit boring and indecisive, but overall nice enough. All of a sudden his cozy little life falls apart, when he helps an injured young girl, collapsed on a sidewalk in London. Not only does his fiancée immediately walk out on him, but he becomes more or less invisible to the rest of his known world. Soon enough he will find out about the “other” London, a city underneath the city, where the wretched souls live, who fell through the cracks. This world is full of shady characters, scoundrels and murderers. You might even meet monsters and angels there. Unfortunately Richard will learn the hard way that scoundrels might be friends and angels foes.

The story is well written and really entertaining. It is a real Gaiman after all.

Another fantastic Audiobook written and narrated by Neil Gaiman. What happen, when you save a life, and stumbles into a dangerous, but still fascinating world, which is nearer than you think? Richard Mayhew just want to return to London above, but it'll not be easy, and during the quest, anything is possible. We even got at the end of the story a bonus tale about one of the main protagonist of this fantastic novel. I did enjoy it quite a lot, and can only recommend it to everyone, who enjoys Fantasy tales with a twist.

The narrator’s voice was smooth, his speaking tempo perfect. I had read the book a long time ago and I feel this audio book topped my own inner narrator’s voice. Thank you!

Great audio book

Mir gefiel vor allem der Humor, der vom Erzähler perfekt herüber gebracht wurde. Die Geschichte ist sehr fantasievoll. Allerdings kann alles passieren wodurch es keine wirkliche Entwicklung gibt.

Humorvoll, gut gesprochen, Geschichte beliebig
