Super fun fast-paced story. Rather cliche but the characters are likeable and the suspense is effective

Tolle Figuren, die trotzdem sie ungewöhnlich sind, sehr glaubhaft rüberkommen. Der Sprecher ist ein Meister seines Fachs.

Intense story line which keeps you within the book e2e. Looking forward to listen to the next books of the trilogy.

King appears to be a great author of detective books, too.

Stephen King tried his hand at Crime and of course, he did very well. Whether you like his usual horror stories or not, you will have to admit that he is a great story teller. He is a real pro and he proved it again, even if the story is outside of his usual genre. If you expect something supernatural, ghouls, ghosts or monsters of any kind, you will not find it in this book.

Will Patten has the right voice for this narrative and the 14 hours of listening are pure pleasure.

Bill Hodges, a retired detective with an alcohol problem, single, overweight and plagued by suicide thoughts, is haunted by the big case, he never managed to solve. A lunatic murderer drove a Mercedes into a line of waiting people, killing several of them, among them a young mother with her baby. Against all odds the murderer escapes and could not get found.
To Bill's surprise, all of a sudden, the murderer contacts him and everything changes.

The story itself develops slowly, but that is essential to create the dense atmosphere. The pace of the story lets you take in every detail and you become part of it. The characters are built brilliantly and bare of the usual clichés.

There is a lot of suspense in the story, but it is not the usual thriller material. There are some unexpected twists and turns, but action and events are not the core of this novel. The characters, their interaction, their development, their weakness and strength make the story unique.

There are some errors and flaws in minor technical details (no Glock revolver etc.), but I don't think this matters. It is a great story and excellent entertainment.
