Dave MacLeod wasn’t even the best among his fellow rock climbers in Glasgow, until a sequence of key decisions and influences catalysed his progression from an unremarkable intermediate to one of the best all-round climbers in the world. Dave shows that much of his advantage came from easily trainable skills or behavioural traits that could be replicated by any climber.

Moving the Needle is a story of the ups and downs of a struggle to answer a deep curiosity and its side effect of making the first ascent of Rhapsody at Dumbarton Rock, then the hardest trad climb in the world and the first to earn the grade of E11. Great book

It's still a bit wild that this is the story of one of the best trad climbers in the world and so far removed from what I could even consider attempting. His story is both well told and empathetic though and was a great listen!

Dave Macleod clearly put a lot of thought into this book. He reflects on his career and tells the stories behind his biggest achievements and the tactics behind his climbing . Very compelling and though provoking not only in a climbing context.
The audiotrack read by himself is also very nicely done.

Very insightfull Dave clearly put allot of thought into writing this. I really appreciate His candit self reflections and ability to articulate His flaws and how He learned from His mistakes and his honestly about how He felt about approching hard climbing. This IS rare in top Level athletes. As a climber myself i can really appreciate what He IS explaining and can relate to allot His experiences.

The only Problem ist IT Males me motivated to Go outside climbing, unfortunatly for me IS a rainy Winter day as i am writing this, so I am left with an unfilled ich to Just Go climbing on Rock. To Sunny days and perfekt conditions.

I could endlessly listen to stories by Dave. Sadest thing is I already finished the audio book on the day I ordered it.
Some adventures remind me of my first year's of climbing as a kid, even though my Darvin ranking was more in the thousands when Dave was in the top rankings...

True stories are always more exciting than fiction...

I found the book both fascinating and entertaining, getting an insight into the life of a world class climber, but also insightful - him sharing what worked for him and being clear to point out that this is no recipe for everyone - go find your own way, put in the hard work and stop listening to people promising quick fixes. 11 out of 10 would recommend even to non-climbers.

Dave Macleod is amazing! Reading the book almost felt more like therapy than a coaching session. The book gives a beautiful perspective on the sport and life in general. This was surely one of the most enjoyable books I've heard on audible so far!
