The logical thing to do if they wanted to proof themself and still be in a strong position would've been to leave and see if these ppl were interested enough to call them back, not stay there in the vague hope that some dancing would persuade that secretive groupe to contact them. And then came the thing with the troll, that he was there was already one big coincidence and then they let him march after something only he can see, even though that sounds exactly as if he was still under the influence of the curse. The moment they went after the illusion without contacting their Alpha the story was over for me.
That whole incident felt so forced and wrong as if someone else read what came before and just wanted to have a dance scene and also wanted to give the troll more to do, but had no idea how to include it into the story so this tumor was written and tacked on to the story.
