Redefine romance and build loving connections you yearn for with the help of this guide for couples—perfect for readers of 8 Rules of Love and the Love Prescription.

Grounded in two decades of original research and work with couples from around the world, Love by Design introduces a groundbreaking new foundation for love: The Emergent Love Model. As Dr. Sara Nasserzadeh knows, successful partnerships do not thrive on love, at least as we know it. Instead of chasing our butterflies, we need to cultivate six core relational ingredients that make it possible for love to emerge:

·Attraction: What do you like and value about each other?
·Respect: How do you keep each other’s needs and priorities in mind?
·Trust: Do you know that you will show up for each other consistently?
·Compassion: Can you honor the other’s emotional experience without making it about you?
·Shared vision: Where are you committed to going together?
·Loving behaviors: How do you show your partner they’re special to you?

Offering dozens of exercises and reflection prompts, this groundbreaking book gives readers a new foundation for a thriving, lasting coupledom.

Building upon other relationship guides I've read (e.g. Attached, Wired for Love), this provides additional granular material to consider when trying to assess whether and how to continue a relationship for emotional connection. The content and writing style is appealing to a more intellectual reader than the usual pop psychology text. The main theme, Emergent love, is a byproduct of a proactive, cultivated collaboration built on respectful routine behaviors that respect an individuated relationship (1+1=3), rather than the submerged codependency that results when the initial fire of imfatuation is mindlesslessy pursued into marriage, and burns out when the passion fades. Self love and self insight is fundamental to being able to show up intentionally for your partner with mutually fulfilling behaviors. Its worth re reading after the first listen.
