Über diesen Titel

Islam has been one of the most powerful religious, social, and political forces in history. Over the last 1,400 years, from origins in Arabia, a succession of Muslim polities, and later empires expanded to control territories and peoples that ultimately stretched from southern France to East Africa and South East Asia.

Yet many of the contributions of Muslim thinkers, scientists, and theologians, not to mention rulers, statesmen, and soldiers, have been occluded. This book rescues from oblivion and neglect some of these personalities and institutions while offering the listener a new narrative of this lost Islamic history. The Umayyads, Abbasids, and Ottomans feature in the story, as do Muslim Spain, the savannah kingdoms of West Africa, and the Mughal Empire, along with the later European colonization of Muslim lands and the development of modern nation-states in the Muslim world.

Throughout, the impact of Islamic belief on scientific advancement, social structures, and cultural development is given due prominence, and the narrative is complemented by portraits of key personalities, inventions, and little known historical nuggets. The history of Islam and of the world's Muslims brings together diverse peoples, geographies, and states, all interwoven into one narrative that begins with Muhammad and continues to this day.

I did really enjoy the books content. Although, I read recently the book called “Destiny disrupted”, which also covers islamic history and for me many of the information were not new. My main comment is on the narrator’s voice. Maybe it just bothers me, but I don’t think it was the most suitable for such a long book.

Book is great, narrators voice not so good

This book is exactly what I searched for a long time but could never find before.
In western schools they never talk about islamic history which always felt like a big void that needed to be filled. Islamic history in detail is very complex and confusing. So I was always interested in an overview of the most important events of islamic history and this book did it perfectly!
Its content is crystal clear and very easy to understand as well as the speaker who never gets boring.
I'd like to thank you so much for this book and may Allah grant you everything best! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Found Islamic History

It is a good collection of early Muslim history. Where the author badly fails in in separation of rhetoric and fact.

He indicates at many points, that Islamic imperialism was more or less completed with as many hugs and kisses as possible. The fact is that Muslim armies had no problem massacring, raping and enslaving civilians, just like Europeans.

He never analyzes anything or take a critical, deeper look at why events happened, or other sides of an event. The book not a bad read, but read it with a healthy grain of salt.

Too much rhetorical nonsense

This book seems to have many factual inaccuracies, eg saying Muslims invented the number zero, or implying no that they visited North America before European settlers which are statements that are absolutely not factually accurate

Lots of simple mistakes
