Different reader (which makes sense), but not matching the character in my head… Story quite sinuous, not very captivating…

Disappointing after the first book “The suspect “

DI Ruiz cannot forget the disappearance of a young girl some years ago. He feels guilty for very personal reasons not to have solved this old case.At least stories are close-knitted here, mainly the history of his personal problems (which originate in his youth) and the story of the disappearance of the young girl. Almost until the very last minutes of this audio book you do not know for sure whether the young girl was victim of a child molester, whether she was killed or whether DI Ruiz has a chance to save her.The combination of three stories - his personal story, his family's story and the crime story - make this audio book a challenge. But I can not deny that I liked the story and found it thrilling. DI Ruiz is described as complex character who refuses to take things easy. If you don't hesitate to follow him through all his reflections, doubts, feelings of guilt and insights you will like this audio book.

good detective story

I don't like crime stories with amnesia. Especially not when the storyline is driven by the regain of memory instead of successful investigation.

Well done but not at best

Die Story ist ok, wenn auch die weitern Bücher deutlich besser sind. Bei dem Sprecher war ich leider kurz davor aufzugeben, vor allem wenn man den Sprecher der weitern Bücher in der Reihe gehört hat

This is one of the first Robotham novels. Compared to later ones I found it extremely long-winded and at times highly improbable. To my mind the author overreached himself to make the story more dramatic. I like the two main characters, and you'll find them in later books. This novel is not one I'd recommend (on the whole).
