And then there were shots....
Everybody ran, ducked, hid, tucked themselves tight. Pressed our lips to the pavement and prayed the boom, followed by the buzz of a bullet, didn't meet us.
After Will's brother is shot in a gang crime, he knows the next steps. Don't cry. Don't snitch. Get revenge. So he gets in the lift with Shawn's gun, determined to follow The Rules. Only when the lift door opens, Buck walks in, Will's friend who died years ago. And Dani, who was shot years before that.
As more people from his past arrive, Will has to ask himself if he really knows what he's doing. This haunting, lyrical, powerful verse novel will blow you away.

Geschichte
This is the whole story, right from the beginning: the sun-bleached streets, the grimy bars on the Sunset Strip, knowing Daisy’s moment was coming. Relive the euphoria of success and experience the terror that nothing will ever be as good again. Take the uppers so you can keep on believing, take the downers so you can sleep, eventually. Wonder who you are without the drugs or the music or the fans or the family that prop you up. Make decisions that will forever feel tough. Find beauty where you least expect it.

Geschichte
Greece in the age of heroes. Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the kingdom of Phthia to be raised in the shadow of King Peleus and his golden son, Achilles. “The best of all the Greeks”—strong, beautiful, and the child of a goddess—Achilles is everything the shamed Patroclus is not. Yet despite their differences, the boys become steadfast companions. Their bond deepens as they grow into young men and become skilled in the arts of war and medicine—much to the displeasure and the fury of Achilles’ mother, Thetis, a cruel sea goddess with a hatred of mortals.

Geschichte
The construct of race has always been used to gain and keep power, to create dynamics that separate and silence. This remarkable reimagining of Dr. Ibram X. Kendi's National Book Award-winning Stamped from the Beginning reveals the history of racist ideas in America, and inspires hope for an antiracist future. It takes you on a race journey from then to now, shows you why we feel how we feel, and why the poison of racism lingers. It also proves that while racist ideas have always been easy to fabricate and distribute, they can also be discredited.

HOT DAMN!!!

HOT DAMN!!!!
Seriously. HOT DAMN!!!!
This book managed to give me all the feelings in such a short amount of time.
Such a powerful read, such an important read. I think this is a book that everyone should read, cause it's really eye opening. Cause you don't know how people grow up, you don't know their story. You don't know why they are doing what they are doing. You don't know. And just because you can't put yourself in the other persons shoes, doesn't make him a bad guy.
As a reader that elevator ride was emotionally exhausting. So I can't even imagine how it was for a griefing, confused 15 year old boy.
Since I listened to the audiobook, I loved that Jason Reynolds narrated the book himself. And I loved the interview part at the end and why he decided to narrate it himself.
I need to check out the other books by Jason Reynolds cause he has such a powerful way with words. I'm in awe. Do I have a love/hate relationship with the ending? Hell yes, but you know, it fits the novel. It works.
