Die Geschichte ist magisch, tief, herzzerreißend und gleichzeitig so schön. Ich habe das Hörbuch in 3 Tagen gehört.

Letztens, brachte die Erzählerin viel Atmosphäre und Spannung in die Geschichte.

Absolutely Amazing

But nothing special. The final twist had me roll my eyes since it was rather obvious in coming. Racism plays a big role in this story which is understandable for the characters but since the main character experiences it so clearly and is able to put it into words, it’s all the more jarring she turns around and immediately thinks the demon born bodyguard should not be allowed to be there and that he is a monster a minute after she found out what that even means with no actual proof of it being anything bad. She just turns around and considers him less than human because obviously, if someone tells you the guy secretly has demon blood, he must be a monster. Disregarding of the fact that nothing that happened up to that point indicates he is one except of course him being a jerk at times. That annoyed me big time.

The narrator does a good job to differentiate the voices though she took some getting used to and leaned into a few extremes at times. Also, one of the first times I kept struggling with understanding what is inner thoughts and what is spoken word in an audiobook. You could argue the character comes across in thoughts well, but it doesn’t help me when I am constantly confused of what is part of a conversation and has been said out loud and somehow ignored and what isn‘t

Fun story

The story is great, no question. I really liked it a lot and I definitely like the different perspective - good worldbuiling, the characters are relatable but not acting very consistently and all in all the motivations and reactions of people could be better and more logical. But still a really good and enjoyable story, especially since it's a first book. .
What I did not like much was the narrator, so I'd really recommend reading the book and not getting the audio book. While she does quite a good job with the different persons and the story in general it gets unbearable as soon as there is anything exciting happening or even slightly dramtic. The half breathless whining and squeaky hysterical jammering is propably supposed to convey excitement and create tension but it's just horribly annoying instead. And instead of being drawn into the story and getting excited it just makes me remove myself from it and even skip some parts. Gosh but it's awful.
I know quite a few female narrators like that style which makes me start avoiding female narrators more and more. Really sad because other than that she is quite good.

Great story less than thrilled with the narrator

This book was on my pile of shame forever, until I finally picked it up. Despite the hype, I was convinced I knew where this is going, especially, because the beginning reminded me of reading "City of Bones" back when I was a teenager. But boy was I wrong!

Are some plot points similar to the Cassandra Clare books? - YES!
Is there teen angst and romance? - YES?
Is this book so much deeper and more captivating? - OMG YES!

The main character feels so real, her emotions touched me every time! She felt authentic in her age and in her grief. The story itself is interesting at first and then it takes off into such a captivating tale of grief, heritage and friendship.

If I am honest, with any other protagonist I would have thought the ending was lame. But in the context of the story, of Bree's life and who she is it felt rewarding.

The Teen-UrbanFantasy-Dream I wish I had when I was younger
