In the land of Lapvona, the lord of the land Villiam is cheating the local villagers of their food, their water, their livelihoods. Grotesque and ridiculous, he marries the pregnant and tongueless ex-nun Agata, whom he believes will make him God, and his son will be the second Christ.

this is a character study, and a great one. the author masterfully crafts these highly problematic characters and takes us on a journey to understand why people are the way they are and do the things they do. it is devoid of romantic notions such as inherent goodness, rather it accepts the ambivalence of human nature.

I am sorry for the author, but I found nothing valuable in this depressing story. As is most often the case, reading by the author with an untrained voice does not improve on it. The various characters remain flat.

Türe is no upside to this book. The best that can be said about it is, that it’s absurd. Unfortunately it’s also boring. Though it’s trying very hard to be clever.
