I try to forget her. It’s impossible. Growing up together, Conor and I shared all our firsts. First love, first kiss, first... Not all our firsts.

We were 16 the night she was violently assaulted while I helplessly watched. I’ll never forget the sounds of her suffering. Or my inconsolable agony when she left Oklahoma.

Years later, she returns to honor our teenage pact. Except the boy she loved is gone, replaced by a ruthless cattle rancher knotted with secrets. She doesn’t know my dark cravings or the trails of sin that lead to her.

I don’t deserve her, but one truth remains: She’s mine.

As a sucker for cowboy romances, Yellowstone, and Pam Godwin’s writing, I had to dive into Knotted — the first book in the Trails of Sin series. And as expected, it was intense from the very beginning.

I absolutely loved the setting and the raw, rugged atmosphere of the story. Conor, the FMC, was such a great character — a true tomboy, jeans-and-T-shirt kind of girl: fierce, feisty, sassy, and beautiful. Jake’s endless love and devotion to her were beautiful to witness; they were soulmates and childhood sweethearts until Conor’s 16th birthday, when devastating and heartbreaking events tore them apart.

This tragic story is about fierce love, regret, revenge, heartbreak, and ultimately healing.

A few things didn’t fully work for me: the reason (greed) behind Conor and Lorne’s danger felt a bit underdeveloped, and Jake’s approach to helping Conor heal from her PTSD was… unconventional. His method of “therapy” often felt too drastic and, in real life, might have done more harm than good. What also didn’t sit right with me was that Jake wasn’t willing to set aside his kinks — especially since many of them were clear triggers for Conor. It made parts of their healing process feel uneasy and conflicted. But again… this is fiction, and Pam Godwin isn’t afraid to explore uncomfortable territory.

The ending felt a bit rushed, and I would’ve loved an epilogue. However, the narration by Tad Branson and Savannah Peachwood was excellent and brought the characters vividly to life.

I can’t wait to continue the series and see what the next two books bring.
⚠️ Trigger warning: This book contains several heavy and graphic scenes — please check the triggers before diving in.
