Über diesen Titel
You might think it’s reckless for a single mom to enter into a marriage of convenience with her boss . . .You would be correct.
To make matters worse, Abel King is a grumpy local brewer with a criminal past. He also happens to be my boss and a total stick-in-the-mud. Every time I come to work with a smile and wave, I’m lucky if I can get a grunt in response.
When I accidentally-on-purpose overhear that he’s having trouble securing a business loan due to his criminal record, I hatch a plan to help the both of us.
The arrangement is perfect—a business transaction and nothing more. Like having a roommate without the hassle of other people bugging you for dates.
I will definitely not be falling in love with him—no matter how many times he says “my wife” and tingles dance in all the right places.
Trouble is, as time goes on, things stop feeling like business and start feeling a whole lot like pleasure . . . and really, that’s just my luck . .

Although it’s apparently the second book in the King Family’s Series, it can easily be read / listened to as standalone. The King’s secrets & dramas can be followed with just enough context within the story.
I fell in love with Sloane! She’s just my type of person:
“I had a grump to irritate”
“When you mess with someone, you commit to the bit”
And yes, the grump she loves to irritate and mess with is her boss and brewer Abel King.
They enter a marriage of convenience as Sloane is trying to escape the clutches of her ex-husband and give her adorable twins, Tillie & Ben, a safe & warm home – while Able is trying to overcome the obstacles due to his criminal record. Both can offer the other the means they need to achieve their goals – and then go their separate ways again. Or will they? (Spoiler: they move to the L word very fast)
If you love banter, forced proximity, and “my wife”, this story is definitely for you! Of course there’s also plenty of drama and crime involved to feed the tension.
And not to forget the side character that is the small town and it’s residents. As I was listening to the story and it was my first Lena story, it took me a moment that “Outtatowners” aren’t people from Out of Town but actually the residents of Outtatowner. As for the Audiobook itself, I prefer it it’s true dual narrations meaning even in the chapters narrated in changing POV, the male voice will narrate any male speech in the female’s chapters and vice versa rather than attempting impersonation.
Can’t wait to get to know the other Kind siblings and meet more of the Outtatowners.
great interconnected standalone. Welcome to Outtatowner
