Very entertaining at a bargain price

Three Spin-off tales in Sherlock-verse ( which has become a popular pasttime for many authors of late, ) told from the less common viewpoint of Colonel Moraine and Professor Moriarty, by Andy Weir (of "The Martian" fame ) who is using the unusual PoV as a nice spoof on many traditional Sherlock tropes. I was vastly amused, especially for the price of 2 Euros (which does hardly buy one a bag of popcorn these days and not even a cup of coffee most of the time) , even this is not HIGH Art and more like very professional fan fiction, but it kept me smiling while waiting for an overdue appointement.

Graham Malcolm is a superior voice for this, great intonations, good level of voice and deliberate pausing for added effect

There is nothing bad about this (except it being only a one hour escape ), and at a very fair price. What could go wrong ?

Excellent work!

I am a Sherlock Holmes fan and have thoroughly read Sir Arthur Conan Doyle‘s original work. I have also read and admired other good works of Andy Weir, the nature of which is quite different than this book. I dare say this work is as good as the original, though to be fair, Weir did not have to start from scratch. But he did a great job of making it both resemble the original and yet, be completely new! I’m looking forward to more of this.

Mirror Image

Andy Weir (author of "The Martian") wrote this bit of Sherlock-Holmes-fan-fiction featuring THE enemy: Professor Moriaty.

And it is real fan-fiction because he slavishly follows the templates of Conan Doyle. The story is told from the POW of a Watson-like lieutenant and unlike the elegant character in the stories of MIchael Kurland this Moriaty is without depth or character.

Yes he is evil and without moral constraints - but there are no emmotions.Just a very, very intelligent surface (like an unnamed student of chemistry mentioned in the last sentence...)

It's a good story to listen to when looking for quick and easy entertainment.

Loved it

Especially the relation to Sherlock Holmes and some mystery stories he solves was awesome. Also the mentioned les trade made me very happy. Multiple readers would have made it even more lively but still it was well read.

How to write a shirlock Holmes?

The character is basically shirlock Holmes without the baggage of having to be true to the history of the character. Not bad but could have been better

We need more of this! So much more! That was excellent! Deliberate reading and perfect intonation for an idea so well-executed, that could have gone down as a hamfisted attempt at fan-fiction. So. Well. Executed!

Didn't work for me

Moriarty is no Sherlock Holmes, and Andy Weir - whose space novels I adore - no Conan Doyle. I only listened to half of the book. The solution to the "case" was quite easy to guess early on. The language is Sherlock Holmes-like, the elegance and suspense of storytelling unfortunately are not. The speaker is good though.
