Über diesen Titel

A suspenseful, often harrowing yet hopeful odyssey through rural America follows a young drifter’s coming of age in an indifferent world, in this debut novel by comedian Louis C.K.

When Ingram is forced by overwhelming poverty and spiritual exhaustion to walk away from his home, he leaves behind a neglectful childhood on a dirt farm on a dead-end road. With no family, no resources, and no practical understanding of the world, Ingram’s only compass is the daily fight to survive and the narrow dream of one day owning a truck.

A picaresque novel set against the backdrop of working-class Texas, Ingram invites listeners to see the world through the eyes of a child who drifts through a tough American landscape of corn farms and oil fields, guided by diner waitresses, migrant workers, and criminals, trying to make sense of a world that doesn’t care about him anymore than a jungle or desert does for the creatures that toil to survive within them.

The reality Ingram discovers is wild and cruel, but filled with unexpected wonders. Though this young boy faces tornadoes, explosions, thieves, and rampant violence, his curiosity, humor, and resilience never dull.

As he begins to push against the tide of social and natural bad luck that seems to almost chase him, Ingram begins to forge himself into an individual with agency and the ability and right to choose his own moves, even if he’s not always prepared for the consequences.

Through Ingram’s journey, he begins to come to terms with a forgotten tragedy from his past that shapes the way he understands himself, his family, and his own place in the world.

A Masterpiece of Dark, Hilarious, and Deeply Human Storytelling

Louis C.K.’s Ingram is a revelation - raw, brilliant, and impossible to stop listening. I finished it in two days, completely absorbed by its sharp wit, unflinching honesty, and the way it balances naivety with profound emotional weight. The story of a boy who becomes a man feels painfully real and is darkly funny, in that signature Louis C.K. way.

What makes it even better is the author’s own narration - his delivery is perfect, infusing every line with the same rhythmic, confessional energy as his stand-up. You can hear the eye rolls, the sighs, the moments of genuine heartbreak. It’s not just a book; it feels like Louis is in the room with you, telling you a story you won’t forget.

If you love his comedy, you’ll find the same fearless, unfiltered voice here - but expanded into something richer, more layered. If you’re new to his work, this is a fantastic introduction. A must-listen.

Amazing Debut Novel for Louis C.K.

Ingram tells the coming of age story of the eponymous boy who is sent from home into the world to fend on his own. The entire book is written from Ingram's point of view which gives the reader an unusual look onto the ways of his part of the world: innocent, naïve, unknowing, but always listening; keen on understanding and trying to make sense of what he is experiencing as he is thrown from one new situation mercilessly into the next. The tale lives from the human interactions that occur naturally and Ingram's childlike interpretation of them. Without the help of a well-meaning family to raise him, it takes him years of his life to learn the intricacies of human behavior which are otherwise taken for granted. Louis C.K.'s performance as reader makes the characters come to life in a way that helps the reader see in them in precisely the way that Ingram would. Recommend.
