Zwillinge, die Kunst und der Kampf um Liebe
Ein YA-Roman mit künstlerischem Touch und Thema, in den man sich finden muss. Die Sprache ist zunächst etwas sonderlich, und was eigentlich geschehen ist, bleibt lange ein Rätsel. Die übernatürliche Prise wirkt am Start etwas befremdlich. Bei dieser Hörbuchversion kommt hinzu, dass die beiden Sprecher eine sehr, sehr unterschiedliche Performance haben. (Der eine hätte nur zwei Punkte verdient, die andere fünf!)
Trotzdem fügt sich alles allmählich zusammen, aus dem Durcheinander formt sich ein zusammenhängendes Bild, und die Figuren kommen einem nahe. Wie Jugendbücher das so an sich haben, gehört eine gewisse Dramatik dazu und sehr viel 'soul searching', wie die Engländer es nennen.
Durch seine kreative Thematik und die Mosaikstruktur ist 'I'll give you the sun' letztlich etwas Besonderes, hebt sich ab. Auch, weil man sich an diese Geschichte erst herantasten muss. Eine kleine Herausforderung, und somit trotz Schwierigkeiten empfehlenswert. Auch für Erwachsene.

Slow burn and then...
This is a slow burn. In the beginning. Occasionally, listening to the first half of this novel, I was on the brink of giving up. But I’m so grateful I did not. When the narrative comes together (and I’m pretty sure the pacing is completely intentional), the story burns bright. So bright.
Lies, Loss and Love can form a mixture of pure bliss. Jandy Nelson found the recipe for it. And damn, does it taste good.

Herzberührend
Endlich mal wieder was für die Seele. Wundervolle Geschichte eines Geschwisterpaares, deren Handlungen aus jugendlicher Unwissenheit, jedoch durchaus nachvollziehbar, schwere seelische Folgen für sich und andere haben. Bei beiden hat JN sehr liebenswerte und ganz einzigartige und besondere Menschen erschaffen. Ich freue mich richtig Noah und Jude kennengelernt zuhaben.
Die Geschichte ist sanft erzählt und dennoch kommen nach und nach Dinge zum Vorschein, die mir den Atem stocken ließen. Dazu gibt es eine winzige Prise beinahe plauslibel wirkende Übsersinnlichkeit. Der Schluss ist für meinen Geschmack zwar etwas ins poetisch-kitschige gerutscht, trotzdem eine tolle Erzählung und bestimmt nicht meien letzte von NJ.
Und eine Frage wurde auch nicht richtig geklärt: Where the hell is Ralph???!!!

much feeling
never loved a story as much as this one, an emotional rollercoaster but in a beautiful way. love the readers voices and characters. 10 out of 10.
