'The most productive man you'd ever hope to meet' – TED
Hyperfocus by Chris Bailey is a practical guide to managing your attention – the most powerful resource you have to become more creative, get stuff done, and live a more meaningful life.
In Hyperfocus, you will learn:
- How working fewer hours can increase our productivity
- How we get more done by making our work harder, not easier
- How we do our best creative work when we're the most tired
Our attention has never been as overwhelmed as it is today and we've never been so busy while accomplishing so little.
In Hyperfocus, Chris Bailey provides profound insights into how we can best manage our attention. He reveals how the brain switches between two mental modes – hyperfocus, our deep concentration mode, and scatterfocus, our creative, reflective mode – and how the surest path to being our most creative and efficient selves at work is to combine them both.
Kritikerstimmen
"The best productivity plans call for strategy, not just hacks or tactics – and Hyperfocus gives you strategy in spades. When you read this book, get ready to do your most important work!." (Chris Guillebeau, author of Side Hustle)

Nearly all of us want to be more productive, but finding the method that works for you among the hundreds and hundreds of different tips, tricks and hacks can be a daunting prospect. After graduating college Chris Bailey decided to dedicate a whole year to doing just that - experimenting with as many of the techniques as he could and finding the things that work. Among the experiments that he undertook are going several weeks on little to no sleep; cutting out caffeine and sugar; taking a daily siesta; and more.

Geschichte
When productivity expert Chris Bailey discovered that he had become stressed and burnt out because he was pushing himself too hard, he realized that he had no right to be giving advice on productivity without learning when and how to rein things in and take a break. Productivity advice works—and we need it now more than ever—but it’s just as important that we also develop our capacity for calm. By finding calm and overcoming anxiety, we don’t just feel more comfortable in our own skin, we invest in the missing piece that leads our efforts to become sustainable over time.

Geschichte
The inscription on the Oracle of Delphi says: 'Nothing in excess.' C.S. Lewis described temperance as going to the 'right length but no further.' Easy to say, hard to practice—and if it was tough in 300 BCE, or in the 1940s, it feels all but impossible today. Yet it's the most empowering and important virtue any of us can learn. Drawing on ancient Stoic wisdom and examples across history and around the world, Ryan Holiday shows why self-control is so vital, and how to cultivate it in our own lives.

Perfectionism is a naturally limiting mindset. For example, kids are taught to color inside the lines, and any color outside the lines is considered a mistake that must be corrected. Imperfectionism frees us to live outside the lines, where possibilities are infinite, mistakes are allowed, and self-judgment is minimal.

Sleep is one of the most important but least understood aspects of our life, wellness, and longevity. Until very recently, science had no answer to the question of why we sleep, or what good it served, or why we suffer such devastating health consequences when we don't sleep. Compared to the other basic drives in life - eating, drinking, and reproducing - the purpose of sleep remained elusive.

Money - investing, personal finance, and business decisions - is typically taught as a math-based field, where data and formulas tell us exactly what to do. But in the real world people don’t make financial decisions on a spreadsheet. They make them at the dinner table, or in a meeting room, where personal history, your own unique view of the world, ego, pride, marketing, and odd incentives are scrambled together. In The Psychology of Money, award-winning author Morgan Housel shares 19 short stories exploring the strange ways people think about money.

Many modern knowledge workers now spend most of their brain power battling distraction and interruption, whether because of the incessant pinging of devices, noisy open-plan offices or the difficulty of deciding what deserves their attention the most. When Cal Newport coined the term deep work on his popular blog, Study Hacks, in 2012, he found the concept quickly hit a nerve.

Insightful.
Others have stated that the book “doesn’t teach you anything you don’t already know” as a critique, but it is far from being a flaw.
What makes this book so incredibly worth it is seeing the sourced science behind the theory.
Knowing why and how happiness makes a difference to productivity will make me think twice about making my happiness take a back seat and using just “willpower”.
Not only that, but being taught ways how to re-energize my mind and even something as simple as “doing nothing” has become an activity that I didn’t even realize I was avoiding.

Adding value to many parts of my life
Everything just works together perfectly - the narrator, the book’s structure, content, writing style, the examples, the exercises and so on.
I really appreciate that the author individualises a few parts - especially the exercises, examples or parts that highlight / emphasise a specific point - to this being an audio book, not a “regular” book out of paper. That makes the experience better and makes the reader feel appreciated and cared for.
It’s also very easy to understand yet not an easy concept.
I really like and appreciate the examples and exercises chosen as anybody can easily identify with these situations and therefore apply them and receive added value.
There is so much more I could add - but I will just finish with the following:
This book is great, I got so much value out of it and will probably do so in the future. I can recommend it to ANYBODY in ANY situation, age, gender, job, etc.
