Über diesen Titel

Infinite power at your fingertips and a target on your back.

Anya Nowicki, along with thousands of people around the globe, has found herself a host for alien technology known as the Archive.

The Archive allows its hosts to alter their minds and bodies in an instant through holographic menu systems. With the touch of a button, anyone can become super strong, gain magical abilities, purchase a giant robot, or become a master in an almost infinite number of skills ranging from advanced combat techniques to fidget-spinning.

However, Anya has also become the target for nightmarish, shape-shifting creatures that have come to Earth following the newfound extraterrestrial tech. The Archive can grant their hosts great power, but it may not be enough to survive the horde of murderous aliens hunting them down.

Homicidal Aliens Are Invading and All I Got Is This Stat Menu contains strong language and graphic violence.

"Very much worth the read."—Alex Kozlowski, author of Wagga: Alpha Physics

Unterhaltsam

I like the idea of the story, I like the characters especially that outside of combat they make informed and intelligent decisions, sadly my suspension of disbelieve got broken every time it came to combat. From how the fights are written it makes the hosts look pretty bad at combat and the surviving aliens should be near immortal killing machines after a few clashes if we follow the logic of the story.
This was the TL;DR so if you can get over my problems with it then you have a pretty nice character driven story at your hands.

Here is more in depth criticism:
From what the story tells us the aliens can do and how they can adapt to pretty much anything while not losing some other advantage in exchange means that the surviving aliens after the 1st few fights should be pretty much immune to most forms of damage while still being able to dish out enough damage to easily kill their opponents. I don't even want to talk about this hogwash about one person being able to kill multiple aliens right after getting the powers, from everything the reader/listener gets told that is impossible.
More specific points about combat breaking any sense of believeability:
1. the anime/manga problem of ppl in the middle of the fight standing around and starring at stuff
2. the anime/manga problem of ppl throwing enemies away after they were finally able to catch them instead of grappling them
3. situations like when the protagonist(who has a skill specifically for in combat analysis and performance) clearly sees an alien adapting to her attack and still attacks the same way expecting it to work for some reason
4. the fire power of the protagonist is weirdly ineffective in certain moments just because the story needs the enemy to survive longer for the story to happen
5. why in hell does the protagonist not use the idea of her fire accelerant and make bombs wich she can stuff into holes on her enemies body, that would be much more cost effective since less accelerant is used, it would circumvent most defenses the aliens have at the beginning of the fights(like their normally though outer layer) and she could use the bombs and then disengage to avoid all those attacks she got hit by while beeing in close-quarters with them, there also exists stuff like thermite wich could make for an interesting weapon and since it isn't that hard to produce it should be pretty cheap to get

They are doomed
