Damian Garcia is a half assed mage and a world class thief living on the wrong side of town with his brother and their roommate. But when his latest heist turns into a rescue and he wakes up the next day with a tattoo on his arm Damian is forced into a world that he never expected to be involved in.

Faelyn Winterblade is the heir to the Winterblade empire, a criminal enterprise that his father had built from the ground up. But when he is kidnapped by a pair of prejudiced geriatrics and rescued by a thief wearing the worst glamour known to man and elf he is left with a gift that many had assumed was lost to his people. Now all Faelyn has to do is convince his mate that he’s serious about chasing him.

I'm not usually a big fan of “mated” stories, but this one is quite entertaining and I really liked the world building. The supporting characters and secondary storylines whet your appetite for the next installment in the series. My only criticism would be that the book is quite short compared to its competitors; I think they could have done more with it. I also think the cover artwork is terrible, but that's a matter of taste. I really like the narrator, though; for once, it's not one of the usual suspects.

Much better than expected

This story had, along with a surprising amount of world building, everything I like about Urban Fantasy. A set of strong characters - Damien is especially fun, and I like that Faelyn isn't some stoic, over-the-top strong love interest, but a genuine character with flaws. Their dynamic is fun, especially since they do rescue each other and it's not a scewed balance. The plot.sets up two other future couples - irreverent Dia was especially cool to me, and the whole thing with the diablos is another fun it of worldbuilding.
In addition, I really liked the narrator. It's the first time I've listened to them, but they gave all characters unique voices. And I loved the addition of bloopers at the end!
All in all, I have already gotten book two and can't wait to keep listening.

Amazing narrator, good story
