A fitting sequel to half a king: bigger in scope and focusing on two protagonists' coming of age story instead of one. It all fits together well in a comfortable adventure tale, elevated by the excellent performance by Ben Elliot.

Twice the Hero's Journey

While Book 1 of the Shattered Sea trilogy had a very slow and borderline unbearable start with a main character who takes maybe a bit too long to see merits in his own abilities, book 2 improves on basically every level - prose, characters, story. Everything is faster paced, grander, more interesting.

Book 2 starts with a much bigger bang and shifts between the perspectives of its' two main characters, a barbaric warrior maiden and a reserved young fighter, who travel across the world of the Shattered Sea with the previous book's protagonist Father Yarvi, on a quest that is intrigueing and takes unexpected turns along the way. A cast of likeable and relatable characters which are less one-note than the ones in the first book makes this book a definite must read if you did enjoy the first one at all.

I personally enjoy Ben Elliot's narration.

This story and its two pov characters were fun. More character development and adventure than in the first book.
The narration of the audiobook still dosn´t convince, although i got used to it a little.
