Über diesen Titel
Everything in Emery Hazard’s life is finally going well: His boyfriend, Nico, is crazy about him; he has a loyal partner at work; and he has successfully closed a series of difficult murders. By all accounts, he should be happy. What he can’t figure out, then, is why he’s so damn miserable.
After a fight with Nico, Hazard needs work to take his mind off his relationship. And someone in town is happy to oblige by murdering the sheriff. The job won’t be easy; the sheriff had enemies, lots of them, and narrowing down the list of suspects will be difficult. Difficult, but routine.
The arrival of a special prosecutor, however, throws the case into turmoil, and Hazard and Somers find themselves sidelined. With an agenda of his own, the prosecutor forces the case toward his favorite suspect, while Hazard and Somers scramble to find the real killer. As the people they care about are drawn into the chaos, Hazard and Somers have to fight to keep what they love - and to keep each other. To find the killer, they will have to reveal what each has kept buried for years: their feelings for each other.
And for Hazard, that’s a hell of a lot scarier than murder.

But then I found Hazard and Somers. Two very complicated men who are still carrying a load of past, who are too afraid of what could happen if they talk, and who are covering up the problem and their insecurities with jokes, blabbering, mocking (Somers) or grumbling, insulting and totally shutting up (Hazard).
Since I can recognize more than just a bit of myself in Hazards ways, I was captivated with this series very quickly.
And though I surely enjoy well written sex scenes, I'm totally with Ashe to only including them when they help the story going and when they make at least kind of sense.
Moreover Ashe's writing style has improved so much. I totally love his way of writing, have loved it from the start, but in 1 and 2 there were so many dragged out lengths, descriptions, too many repetitions and inner monologs that I skipped pages from time to time.
Not so with this book. It was a thrilling journey from the very beginning to the last page.
And man! What an ending. So beautifully written I had to read it time and again. And then listen to it on audible (isn't that a bit embarrassing? But no, it was simply an inevitable reaction).
In a way I'm kind of disappointed that they are obviously together now. Ok, it was really slooow burn, but it was captivating, heartwrenching and also funny how they sneaked and skulked around each other. So what's next? There are still many books in line and at the moment I have no clue if there is much development left when they are committed to each other, settled and open about their relationship. I just downloaded the next book and I'm so much looking forward to set of on the next journey to Missouri.
Bravo Mr Ashe.
Gets better with every book, outstanding
