Über diesen Titel
Adversity and peril force our dear couple to unite against a mighty enemy…
"Good men are scarce—but there are fools aplenty," Colonel Fitzwilliam declares during an impromptu stroll through Rosings Park. Elizabeth's recent experiences with Mr. Darcy have confirmed her belief that good men are very scarce indeed, so imagine her shock when she discovers that the colonel is speaking about Mr. Bingley.
Mr. Darcy hastens his return to town, where a dire conflict threatens his friendship with Mr. Bingley. However, the squabble becomes a trifling matter after an assassination in Hyde Park.
Good Men Are Scarce is a novel where Elizabeth and Darcy come to an early understanding and unite against an enemy. It's a Regency enemies-to-lovers romance featuring espionage and forced proximity.

Good men are scarce
During her stay at Hundsford Elizabeth not only encounters the haughty Mr Darcy but also his amiable cousin Colonel Fitzwilliam. The Colonel relates to her that Darcy is confronted with an imprudent match and that Bingley is not acting as one would expect from a friend. Elizabeth is confused but decides to judge for herself because her aunt requestes her presence in London to discern if Bingley, who finally returned Jane's call, does not make a fool of her sister.
When Elizabeth arrives in London Jane is already engaged, thus Elizabeth finds herself again in the company of the disagreeable Mr Darcy. When some days later the Colonel unexpectedly calls, she even finds herself in the company of Mr Darcy's shy but lovely sister. An unexpected assassination and later even an abduction gives her a chance to get to know Darcy better. But will this be enough for more than a friendship with his sister? Why is Darcy constantly in trouble? And will he need Elizabeth to overcome them?
The book was very well written by the author Elin Eriksen. It’s a fast-paced mystery with many twists and turns and I was hardly able to put it down. Because of the twists and turns one was not able to fully guess the extent of the secrets and the actual occurrences until the very end. I, for my part, had my suspicions but did not guess everything in advance. In addition the book was very thrilling because Darcy is, due to a secret and its impacts, in immediate danger. Therefore you long to know what happens next, especially with Darcy, and you are quite hooked. That was all very well done.
I really love the development of the relationship between Darcy and Elizabeth in this variation and that there is an early understanding between them. Once they have overcome their misunderstandings they share such a loving relationship and even partnership. They constantly search for a way to be near each other, to hold hands, to kiss, to comfort each other. I like that Elizabeht comes to know Darcy in times of distress and vulnerability and therefore sees the real, undisguised man. I like that she, in the course of their relationship, is able to guess his every mood and that she is there to support him and give him comfort. Darcy, for his part, soon discovers that he needs Elizabeth to overcome his troubles, not only because of her support but also because of her clever understanding and her help.
Most of the time the story takes place in London and therefore it's mostly only ODC and Darcy's family. There are short scenes with the Longbourn party but they have little chance to come between Darcy and Elizabeth or to become an obstacle for their union.
There is one big villain in the book but that is part of the secret and its impacts and therefore I will not reveal more. You need to find out for yourself.
The audiobook was narrated by the excellent narrator Elizabeth Grace. I like her very much. She has her own way to give every character their own voice and therefore you are, at any point of the story, able to recognise who is speaking to whom. I like that very much.
With Elizabeth Grace's narration of the audiobook the story is even better than only in writing.
As I read the book before I also enjoyed the many hints about the big secret that are part of the story but you only understand them in retrospect or while reading a second time. But they are always there. That was very well done by the author.
If you like to know what secret of the past endangers Darcy at present and how he, with Elizabeth's help, can deal with it you should definitely listen to this excellent audiobook.
I highly recommend it.
