Wonderfully entertaining story full of suspense and colourful characters. Not a single dull moment and not too predictable either. Escape lit at its best. Would make a perfect BBC mini series. Loved the dialogues in particular and they couldn`t have been read better than by my all-time favourite narrator Alec Wyndham - no other can so convincingly imitate female voices, or old ones, or childish ones, or arrogant ones or smoulderingly sexy heroic ones… and switch so effortless between all of them. Both thumbs up!

I’m so happy that this series has been recorded for Audible! I read the ebook long ago, and now I’ve enjoyed the story just as much the second time around. Who was Gentleman Jim exactly, and was he really a gentleman? His behavior seems to suggest otherwise, and it has affected many lives. What constitutes good behavior anyway, what makes a gentleman? And how is Maggie Honeywell affected by it all? Excellent story line with some depth to it. Recommended!

I’m fairly used to the soothing voice of Alex Wyndham. But this story was something else - full of secrets, adventure and of course love. Maggie and Nicolas are made for each other. But there is a long journey before their dream can come true. I liked Maggie’s personality - her frail health but stubborn heart can conquer all. Nicolas is someone else entirely. Of course you suspect all the secrets but Mimi Matthews always has some surprises along the way. This was quite an adventure.
