How far would you go for someone you love?
Nobel Prize-winning scientist Sarah Collier has taken a step back from work to spend more time with her family. Movie nights with her husband Daniel and their daughter Maddie are a welcome respite from the scrutiny of the world’s press. As much as it hurts, it’s good to be able to see her father more too. He’s suffering from Alzheimer’s and needs special care.
Sarah has started to show tell-tale signs of the disease too. She’s been experiencing blackouts and memory loss. It’s early days but she must face the possibility that she won’t be there to see her daughter grow up. Daniel, a neuroscientist himself, is doing his best to be supportive but she already knows that she will have to be the strong one. For all of them.
So when Sarah is invited to be the guest of honour at a prestigious biotech conference in Geneva she declines, wanting to stay out of the public eye – that is until Daniel shows her the kind of work that the enigmatic Mauritz Schiller has been developing.
Flown first class to the spectacular alpine city and housed in a luxury hotel, Sarah and Daniel are thrust back into the spotlight. As they try to shut out the noise of the public media storm, in private Sarah is struggling with her escalating symptoms. And the true extent of what Schiller has achieved is a revelation. This is technology that could change medicine forever. More than that, it could save Sarah’s life.
But technology so valuable attracts all kinds of interest. Wealthy investors are circling, controversial blogger Terri Landau is all over the story, and someone close to Schiller seems bent on taking advantage of the situation for themselves. Sarah feels threatened and does not know who to trust – including herself. Far from being her lifeline Schiller's technology may be her undoing.
As events spiral out of control Sarah and Daniel are faced with the ultimate question: how far would you go for someone you love?

Fesselnder Thriller mit grandiosen Sprecher:innen
Ich war erst skeptisch, wurde jedoch schnell in. den Bann der Geschichte gezogen. Manchmal etwas vorhersehbar, aber dennoch sehr hörenswert.
Die Sprecher:innen und insbesondere Nicola Walker sind großartig. Gern mehr davon.

Big recommendation!
A very exciting, thrilling story. I loved every second of Sarahs "Journey", she is such a well written character! Can't wait for more of it!

Evil Plot - great ;-)
great story with an evil plot. It was gripping but without real action (totally acceptable for this genre). Voice of Richard Armitage AS great as ever!

Now we know!
Richard Armitage ist nicht nur ein talentierter Theater- und Filmschauspieler sowie Erzähler in Hörbüchern, sondern in seinem ersten Buch auch ein begabter Schriftsteller.
Hier reist die an Alzheimer erkrankte Nobelpreisträgerin Sarah Collier mit ihrem Mann Daniel nach Genf. Dort nehmen sie an einer Konferenz des Österreichers Mauritz Schiller teil (perfekt gesprochen mit österreichischem Akzent), der ein Gehirnforschungsinstitut (neurocell) führt. Er arbeitet u.a. an einem winzigen Gehirnimplantat, das seine Energie aus der Wärme des Blutstroms zieht.
Wie immer ist Armitage als Sprecher differenziert, moduliert und sehr facettenreich, herausragend ist der russische Akzent des Sicherheitschefs Pavel.
Insgesamt ist der Thriller spannend und überraschend bis zum Ende, mit aktuellen Themen (Gehirnforschung, Sterbehilfe...) - sehr gut recherchierte, aktuelle und niveauvolle Unterhaltung! Dabei ist die Sprache des Krimis immer wieder überraschend poetisch, mit außergewöhnlichen Vergleichen und Bildern. Oft zeigt sich hier der präzise Blick des Autors auf die Natur. Außerdem erahnt man hinter der Handlung manchmal den Schriftsteller (in der dramatischen Skiabfahrt am Matterhorn?).
The hardcover book, published Oct. 2023 in Germany, is also a real treat with a nice cover in grey and yellow and beautiful picture of the handsome and gifted author. Very well done Mr. Richard Armitage! Good luck for your further acting and writing!!

very enjoyable
a thoroughly enjoyable and breathtaking multi-genre phantastic thriller in both senses of the word. it takes the reader from james bond-like outer action to the inner dread and confusion of the female character and back again, and so much more. you also get science and science fiction with some important ethical questions thrown in. by the way: congratulations to a man author getting a woman protagonist right. not to mention incredible reading performances.

Thrilling debut
A very captivating debut. I always enjoyed listening to Richard Armitage reading (and acting) the stories others wrote. Obviously, a gifted story-teller in his own right has gone not only behind the camera but taken up the pen to write himself (how did he find the time with all his other projects going on?) It is always a pleasure when an authors shares his love of language with his audience. And Mr Armitage shares generously in the best sense of the word.
The story is well built. The elements of the plot fall nicely into place and fit together very well. No fear no spoilers. But I especially liked the details that give the story its character. E.g. Sarah's disorientation and despair about it, Dan's sense of fear and frequent failures. And I admire the tenderness in the scenes with Sarah's father.
In the end there's only one big wish left: for more to come from this in every way extraordinsry story-teller.

I love Richard's first book ❤️
Richard's first book is truly a masterpiece. I love him and his beautiful voice. He's great at everything he does and his first book is just as great as he is.
I can only recommend everyone to listen to it.

Stunning debut novel from Richard Armitage!
Gripping story, well performed!
The topic of caring for ill persons/relatives is very important and personal related to Mr. Armitage.
The only thing I personally dislike is the switch in the narrative perspective from Sarah to Daniel (I would have preferred an omniscient narrator and everything performed by Richard Armitage) and that Daniel talks to the audience. That feels artificial and from my point of view is superfluous.
I hope for many more books/audiobooks from Mr. Armitage to come…

Fantastic first book written by Richard Armitage
I loved the story and couldn't stop listening.
Both readers have done such a fantastic job !
I really suffered with the characters Sarah and her hubby Daniel throughout the whole time.
I hope we might get some more audible book written and narrated by Richard Armitage.
