Über diesen Titel

Future Shock is about the present. Future Shock is about what is happening today to people and groups who are overwhelmed by change. Change affects our products, communities, organizations - even our patterns of friendship and love.

Future Shock vividly describes the emerging global civilization: tomorrow's family life, the rise of new businesses, subcultures, lifestyles, and human relationships - all of them temporary.

Future Shock illuminates the world of tomorrow by exploding countless cliches about today.

Future Shock will intrigue, provoke, frighten, encourage, and, above all, change everyone who listens to it.

Future Shock ask the very reasonable question: what happens when there is too much change? Tofflers answer is, as the title says, Future Shock. However, it is important to remember that the book came out in 1970s and their perception about the future was... fantastical, to say the least. The Space Odyssey 2001, which came out in 1968 is pretty much the future Tofller invisioned and warned about the consequences of such rapid change in our society's.

It is an interesting and, at times, difficult read. The audio version gives the book much needed life and it makes the book much more enjoyable.

The book talks about many psychological, philosophical, economical and technological aspects, and how they will be influenced by the "rapidly" coming future. If your interested in any of those aspects or 70s science/world view or generaly want to know more about how the west saw the future during the Cold War, then you should definitely give it a read. Those that are less interested should probably give it a pass.

Interesting, but outdated
