Dewey Fontenot is an independent, grown man. Well, he thinks he is anyway. He doesn’t need help or advice from his caring, fun-loving, loud and proud, Cajun family. After bad decisions land him in the drunk tank at the local jail, Dewey decides it is time to leave town.
After five years of barely getting by, Dewey returns home for the funeral of his great-grandmother. In need of a new address, Dewey moves to Crystal Beach, Texas after his great-grandmother's funeral. Here, at the beach, Dewey begins to find happiness. That is, until Hurricane Ike washes away all the houses on the peninsula. At the same time, Dewey’s great-grandfather passes away.
For the second time in as many years, Dewey returns to his hometown, homeless. He would like to leave town again, but he has no options. Reluctantly, Dewey begins to search for work in Beaumont. His pitstop in Beaumont is supposed to be temporary, but a rekindled, fleeting friendship threatens to derail that plan. Full of charm and an extra shot of self-doubt, Dewey’s road to self-discovery is paved with witty antics, life lessons, heart flutters, and funerals.
Four Funerals in Mamou is a reminder that change is always possible when folks are ready to embrace it.
