Über diesen Titel

Carter Schunk is a dedicated police officer with a difficult past and a big heart. When he's called to a domestic disturbance, he finds a fatally injured woman and a child, Alex, who is in desperate need of care. Child Services is called, and the last man on earth Carter wants to see walks through the door. Carter had a fling with Donald a year ago and found him as cold as ice since it ended.

Donald (Ice) Ickle has had a hard life he shares with no one, and he's closed his heart to all. It's partly to keep himself from getting hurt and partly the way he deals with a job he's good at because he does what needs to be done without getting emotionally involved. When he meets Carter again, he maintains his usual distance, but Carter gets under his skin, and against his better judgment,Donald lets Carter guilt him into taking Alex when there isn't other foster care available. Carter even offers to help care for the boy.

Donald has a past he doesn't want to discuss with anyone, least of all Carter, who has his own past he'd just as soon keep to himself. But it's Alex's secrets that could either pull them together or rip them apart - secrets the boy isn't able to tell them and yet could be the key to happiness for all of them.

Würden Sie dieses Hörbuch einem Freund empfehlen? Wenn ja, was würden Sie ihm dazu sagen?

There are no two ways about it, I love Mr Grey's books and how he always creates such sympathic, vibrant MC s ,setting them in his well structured contemporary romance novels and connecting them to his other books (fans like myself recognize references to the „By Fire“, „The Tast of Love“ „Bronco Boys“ series immediately to mention just some). Mr.Grey's latest series sets focus on the local law enforcement team at pittoresque Carlisle/Pennsylvania.

Welche Figur hat Ihnen am besten gefallen? Warum?

Carter is more than just the Carlisle PD computer geek. When out on patrol he is called to a crime scene and rescues a clearly neglected, scared little boy. But Donald from Child Service can't get him places anywhere. In the end he takes little Alex in himself, and by extention Carter, whom Alex seems to trust. Carter and Donald have been attracted to each other for some time already, but it never went any further because Carter could not jump over Donald's sky high inner protective walls, he hides demons of his past. Now, with „help“ of little Alex,Carter melts those ice wall barrier and can show Donald, how much he really cares.

Hat Ihnen Randy Fuller an der Geschichte etwas vermittelt, was Sie vielleicht beim Selberlesen gar nicht bemerkt hätten?

Randy Fuller has done another marvelous job with this narration. Carter and Donald are more alike in age and appearennce, still Mr. Fuller leands them his voice with such fine nouances that they can be easily set apart for the listener. With abused, scared little Alex he has really outdone himself. One can clearly picture those 3 growing closer together during his narration.

Was wäre für andere Hörer sonst noch hilfreich zu wissen, um das Hörbuch richtig einschätzen zu können?

The story is typical Andrew Grey style, well-structured, lovable MC s and vibrant dialoges in the familiar setting of Carlisle/Pennsylvania. The criminal investigation around Alex gives the whole storyline tension. The end is sweet and all what we worried readers/listeners have hoped for, though the discovery about Alex's past is a bit too much coincidence and too sugar-sweet for my liking.
