Army Ranger Luke Monroe lives and breathes the military. They’re the family he never had and a life without his brothers-in-arms is unfathomable. But the ultimate betrayal has Luke on the run and a twist of fate leads him to the small town of Dare, Montana to seek help from the foster brother who saved him once before. Only the brother he’s searching for isn’t the man he finds and he has no choice but to keep running. Until an encounter on the side of the road with a stranger changes everything.

The last thing Gray wants when he seeks refuge at his cabin in the secluded Montana mountains is company but a run-in with the mysterious and very straight Luke has Gray offering the damaged soldier a place to regroup. And since a physical relationship isn’t even on the table, Gray finds himself enjoying something he hasn’t had in a long time...a real friend.

But what happens when friendship just isn’t enough? When a man who’s only been with women begins to crave more?

With one man running from his past and the other running from his future, will finding each other be enough to bring them peace?

Can be listened to as a stand-alone story - no cliffhangers.

This series crosses over with some of my other series, so for the most enjoyment, they should be listened to in order, but it is not required. You can find the correct listening order at the beginning of each audiobook. I've also bundled all my series in the correct listening order under the title of A Family Chosen: The Protectors and Barrettis.

Finding something they were not aware they needed

The Army had been his chosen family, but now Luke is framed by his criminal comerads and on the run. His only hope is smashed the second Luke realizes his stepbrother Rhys has returnend to the police force. Gray finds him and the dog Luke rescued, at this absolute bottom low and tries to help, although Gray is not feeling well either. What is wrong with Gray, will Luke be able to clear his name and how will those two so different men come together? That made me inhale this story.

Wow, I think this is Sloane Kennedy´s best book of her „Finding Series“ so far! Right from the start to the end she had me enthralled and I could not let go of Gray&Luke. From his appearances in the previous book I had Gray dismissed as a shallow playboy. Follwoing him now through his health struggles, made my heart open wide in sympathy for him. Although he, the famous author bathing in the shine of Hollywood fame, Gray has no one to turn to. No wonder both men feel so drawn to each other as Luke is as „true-friend-less“ as Gray. I loved Luke with his calm manner, practical ways and immovable support for ill Gray, and care for dog Ripley. This time the hot scenes are mostly missing due to Gray´s situation. But their slow, tender getting together is even hotter and well makes up for that.

Michael Dean has done an absolutely touching narration of this gripping storyline. How he interprets Gray, who tries to shoulder all alone, made my heart ache for the lonley man. Luke is not hung up so much on the fact he loves Gray, but more worried he could drag Gray into his own, dangerous mess. Luke trying to protect Gray and then almost being damned to watch the situation escalating, is so vividly read that I bit my lips in worry for both men and Ripley. Those 5 hours simply flew by thanks to Mr.Dean`s stunning narration. Only the happy end I let me catch my breath again.
