Deon Meyer
A stunning standalone thriller from the leading crime writer in South Africa, author of the best-selling Benny Griessel series.
I want to tell you about my Father's murder.
I want to tell you who killed him and why.
This is the story of my life.
And the story of your life and your world too, as you will see.
Nico Storm and his father drive across a desolate South Africa, constantly alert for feral dogs, motorcycle gangs, nuclear contamination. They are among the few survivors of a virus that has killed most of the world's population. Young as he is, Nico realises that his superb marksmanship and cool head mean he is destined to be his father's protector.
But Willem Storm, though not a fighter, is a man with a vision. He is searching for a place that can become a refuge, a beacon of light and hope in a dark and hopeless world, a community that survivors will rebuild from the ruins. And so Amanzi is born.
Fever is the epic, searing story of a group of people determined to carve a city out of chaos.

Emotional and atmospheric...There are shades of Cormac McCarthy's superb The Road, but FEVER grips even more.
Reminiscent of The Stand and The Passage. Great stuff. (Stephen King)
An epic read that has a dystopian feel and makes you ask the question: What if?
FEVER bears comparison with landmarks in the genre such as The Stand...The novel explores humanity at its best and worst; the crushing loss of civilisation with everything that means for the structure of society...This great book asks us to reflect on our own hidden natures - how would we react if the world we knew came to an end tomorrow? (Vaseem Khan, author of The Unexpected Inheritance of Inspector Chopra)
FEVER is one of the best books of the year. Deon Meyer is a masterful writer and has created a stunning epic that brims with emotion. The mystery, thrills, and action kept me riveted to every page. Highly recommended. (Adam Hamdy, author of Pendulum)
Compelling, action-packed and fraught with emotion. At its heart it is a powerful exploration of humanity at its best and worst and bears favourable comparison with landmarks of the genre such as Stephen King's The Stand and Cormac McCarthy's The Road. Simply stunning.
Moving and gripping.
Deon Meyer should be applauded for this brutal, unflinching tale of the excesses of humanity coiled like a python around a coming-of-age tale; one that makes one think deeply about the human condition as it entertains as well as warns of the dangers ahead...Miss this insightful thriller at your peril, because as crime thrillers go, this is the big summer read of 2017.
Meyer justifies at every point the book's daunting length
Ein großes Kompliment auch an die Sprecher, die die unterschiedlichen Charaktere wunderbar verkörpern und zum Leben erwecken! Das ist so ein Buch, auf das man wartet!
Eines von den Büchern, die man nie vergisst!
