Das Autorenpaar nennt seine Leser voll zu recht the book devouring horde (BDH). Könnten die beiden doch nur bei gleicher Qualität schneller schreiben, bisher hat mich noch jedes Fitzelchen von Ilona Andrews süchtig gemacht. Fated Blades ist keine Ausnahme, hab es schon 3 Mal gehört und werde es noch ganz oft hören. Spannung, Action, World Building und zarte Romanze zwischen anfänglichen Erbfeinden sind hier aufs Beste ausgebaut und wunderbar vorgelesen.

Ach könnten sie doch noch schneller schreiben :)

I love the story, the world and the characters. Even at the nth repetition it doesn’t get boring. I also like Aaron Shedlock‘s performance a lot.

Ilona Andrews does it again! I was a little worried when I saw that the entire book would only take 5 hours, but Dates Blades proved that you don't need 25 hours to create a well thought out story with characters we can enjoy. What stood out to me was how well the backstory was developed without cramming in endless narration and how well the story was paced.

Also a novelty, it was my first audiobook where the entire story was narrated by a male voice. Aaron Shedlock was a pleasure to listen to and I appreciated how he approached female voices. I look forward to hearing more from him in the future.

The book is one of the weaker ones of Ilona and Andrew which means it is still of superior quality compared to the rest of the genre - even tho the "genre" is not so easily determined. Is it Fantasy, SciFi, Romance, Action? Well, yes.

The story is fast paced with threedimensional characters and well explained background for them as well as the world we are in. As a part of the kinsmen universe it can be read by everyone, readers who have already read Silver Shark or Silent Blade as well as first timers. So, the book is, as everything by this writing duo, a must read and a definite recommendation.

My problem here is with the narrator. It's not like his voice or reading skills are bad, not at all. But to him women's voices - in every conceivable scenario, even while spitting mad and fighting - are breathy almost moaned whispers, at some points with some side characters so much that they sound like a mockery of an especially feminine gay voice. He also drops into a whisper every few seconds so that he's barely audible and if you - like me - listen to audiobooks while driving, you will miss out on half of the dialog.

So far, I've enjoyed everything Ilona Andrews published. Not this time, sadly. The characters were somewhat flat, there was no spark between them nor could I connect with them. The story was okay though it lacked the humor I've come to expect and love in IA novels; plus the ending a bit hard to believe.
However, I might have enjoyed everything much more if the narrator wasn't so terrible. Why did every female character have this weird, breathy voice? It was completely unfitting the characters and got really irritating after a while.
