With an introduction by Sarah Brown

Women are standing up and #shoutingback. In a culture that's driven by social media, for the first time women are using this online space (@EverydaySexism, www.everydaysexism.com) to come together, share their stories, and encourage a new generation to recognise the problems that women face.

This book is a call to arms in a new wave of feminism and it proves sexism is endemic - socially, politically, and economically. But women won't stand for it. The Everyday Sexism Project is grounded in reality; packed with substance, validity, and integrity and it shows that women will no longer tolerate a society that ignores the dangers and endless effects of sexism.

In 2012 after being sexually harassed on London public transport Laura Bates, a young journalist, started a project called Everyday Sexism to collect stories for a piece she was writing on the issue. Astounded by the response she received and the wide range of stories that came pouring in from all over the world, she quickly realised that the situation was far worse than she'd initially thought. Enough was enough. From being leered at and wolf-whistled on the street, to aggravation in the work place and serious sexual assault, it was clear that sexism had been normalised. Bates decided it was time for change.

This bold, jaunty, and ultimately intelligent book is the first to give a collective voice to the protest against sexism. This game-changing book is a juggernaut of stories, often shocking, sometimes amusing, and always poignant - it is a must-listen for every inquisitive, no-nonsense modern woman. Welcome to the fourth wave of feminism.

Still important. More people should listen to it!!! Sad that most things haven’t changed a bit.

A must read/listen to

Super informative! Full of emotions and facts. Made me sad and angry, made me cry and scream at the top of my lungs when in my car. Absolute must-read for everyone!

10/10, would recommend

It‘s tragic that to this day we are still facing the same kinds of issues we faced back when this was written. However, it shows us how important it is to recognize that we have power to fight against injustice if we just chose to recognize how bad things are and organize. It also really encapsulates the precursor to many things that did eventually create real change in the future such as body positivity, Feminism being more talked about openly, Tabloids being held accountable for misogyny as well as one note in the book mentioning brands like Monster High suffering from misogynistic tropes and very narrow minded femininity caricatures and a very thin body type as the standard and how it cannot be understated that people pointing this out did change things such as the current Monster High Line offering different body types, hight and more black and brown diversity in their doll line not to mention inclusion of queer and trans characters into the main line of characters. I‘m really greatful I got to listen to this! It really gives me hope and also I do feel that it is a fantastic look into the past seeing the people‘s efforts that lead to more women‘s rights achievements over the years. We still of course have a long way to go, but if anything this book really just shows us how effort and action leads to change. It couldn‘t have been achieved without works and projects like these.

An incredible book on why Feminism is so important especially today!
