Inhaltsangabe

Football has come to the ancient city of Ankh-Morpork - not the old fashioned, grubby pushing and shoving, but the new, fast football with pointy hats for goalposts and balls that go gloing when you drop them. And now, the wizards of Unseen University must win a football match, without using magic, so they're in the mood for trying everything else.

The prospect of the Big Match draws in a street urchin with a wonderful talent for kicking a tin can, a maker of jolly good pies, a dim but beautiful young woman, who might just turn out to be the greatest fashion model there has ever been, and the mysterious Mr Nutt (and no one knows anything much about Mr Nutt, not even Mr Nutt, which worries him, too. As the match approaches, four lives are entangled and changed for ever.

Because the thing about football - the important thing about football - is that it is not just about football.

Kritikerstimmen

"At its heart, this is an intelligent, cheeky love letter to football, its fans and the unifying power of sports." ( Publishers Weekly)
"In short, this is as busy and as daft as any other Discworld yarn, which means it is the quintessence of daft. Nobody writes fantasy funnier than Pratchett." ( Booklist)

- says here the title is optional

It's my favourite book and Briggs is doing a good job reading it. A story about how to be decent which has definitely gained worth in my book.

Entertaining but not very deep

The reader was great (slang well done!), the storyline nice (if foreseeable) and the jokes often funny. A bit much of football for my taste, but that was clear from the start :-)

nice but not top

clearly i had two problems with this audiobook, first i'm not a football fan, second i'm not native english speaking and as that had some problems with the dialect which seems to come with english football fans. the story in itself is nice and there is enough discworld humor and the usual suspects, but all in all it's one of the weaker novels in my bookkeeping. as a discworld novel i think it's average stuff. still i would buy it again as i am a fan of terry pratchett indeed.

overrated

to simple a storyline, not really humorous as earlier novels, the very last bit in the dnding was good though.

Nicht Pratchett bester

ich liebe Terry Pratchetts Scheibenwelt-Romane, aber dieser ist ehrlich gesagt nicht mein Favorit. Trotzdem: Gewohnt unterhaltsam und scharfsinnig.

nice language, mediocre story

Not one of the best discworld novels. Good for learning the more subtle ways of the english language.
Storyline misses a climax and therefore the story is a bit of a drag. Wonderful TP-humour!

Not quite great

Love Pratchett, this one left me lukewarm. Not sure if its just the book or if the narrator didn't do it for me. Somehow the characters didn't come as alive as in other Discworld books that I read on paper.
