Inhaltsangabe

With The Three-Body Problem, English-speaking listeners got their first chance to experience the multiple-award-winning and best-selling Three-Body Trilogy by China's most beloved science fiction author, Cixin Liu.

Three-Body was released to great acclaim, including coverage in The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. It was also named a finalist for the Nebula Award, making it the first translated novel to be nominated for a major SF award since Italo Calvino's Invisible Cities in 1976. Now this epic trilogy concludes with Death's End.

Half a century after the Doomsday Battle, the uneasy balance of Dark Forest Deterrence keeps the Trisolaran invaders at bay. Earth enjoys unprecedented prosperity due to the infusion of Trisolaran knowledge. With human science advancing daily and the Trisolarans adopting Earth culture, it seems that the two civilizations will soon be able to coexist peacefully as equals, without the terrible threat of mutually assured annihilation. But the peace has also made humanity complacent.

Cheng Xin, an aerospace engineer from the early 21st century, awakens from hibernation in this new age. She brings with her knowledge of a long-forgotten program dating from the beginning of the Trisolar Crisis, and her very presence may upset the delicate balance between two worlds. Will humanity reach for the stars or die in its cradle?

"Why the *** change the narrator?"

Every sentence sounds exactly the same. Why why why why why why why why whyyyy??? After almost 50 hours listening to the good narrator now this? I mean the voice is alright but why would you read every sentence in the EXACT SAME WAY???? I'm furious!

    "Exhausting and boring"

I really liked the first two books and the first half of this one is also fine. The second half, however is drawn-out and boring. It feels like the author tried to cram as much physical phenomena and theories in, neglecting the story completely.

    "Absolute top class"

After having heard the second book some time ago, it took me time to connect this story to the second book.
However, once I was into it again, it just took my breath to hear the story to its end.
I find it particularly interesting how individual perspective and a kind of "universe" perspective are intertwined and touched in the course of the story.
Only question is, when can I read his next book ...

"The stupidity from book 2 continues"

    ***SPOILERS***

    ***SPOILERS***

Mankinds' stupidity from book 2 continues.

In book 2, they all sincerely believed to have won a war against a malicious and technologically far superior alien race, which then destroyed their whole assembled fleet in minutes.

Now, in book 3, humanity is just as stupid. They have built this gravity emitter that would doom both races if activated and is the only thing that keeps the aliens from enslaving and destroying mankind. One human has the responsibility to activate the emitter once earth is attacked.
The aliens take only a few decades in which they act friendly, and suddenly humanity doesn't really want the danger of the activation of the emitter any more. So when the old "caretaker" of the emitter retires, they select the least suited and most kindhearted girl they can find to take over. In the next few minutes, the aliens attack the emitter, the new caretaker freezes in terror, and humanity is enslaved and put into a big labor camp.

So to sum it up, book 3 is as stupid and terribly written as book 2. DO NOT BUY, if you don't want your brain to bleed out.

"Great thinker lost his characters -> utter boredom"

Usually I love, if an author is creating a plausible world with background. Cixin Liu has so many great ideas and “Remembrance of Earth's Past” could be one of the best SF of all time - just the concept of the dark universe is very disturbing in its plausibility. However with this book he is overshooting, with the result of creating a very boring book.
Cixin Liu’s tendencies to get lost in building a background were visible in the first volumes, just remembering introduction up of Luo Ji. However the main story line was able to pull one through the dreary passages. After the second volume the key elements are all in place and the new ideas in third are not sufficient to cover up his lecturing. It feels like that Cixin Liu lost control of his characters and he is creating a place for them. This may work if the characters are interesting enough, but Cheng Xin and even more the total useless characters of Yun Tianming gave me the urge in hoping they die - fast. Last and very least, the opening chapter …. what the hell? Reading a history book of the same day is much more fun. Three times I looked at the audible app, if I am really listing to the correct book.
So in summary, the only reason one should listen to this book, is to get an ending after loving the first two volumes. However even this is not enough to continue after Deterrence Era – the last 2/3 of the book are redundant.
