Inhaltsangabe

The best-selling author of The Martian returns with an irresistible new near-future thriller - a heist story set on the moon.

Jazz Bashara is a criminal. Well, sort of. Life on Artemis, the first and only city on the moon, is tough if you're not a rich tourist or an eccentric billionaire. So smuggling in the occasional harmless bit of contraband barely counts, right? Not when you've got debts to pay and your job as a porter barely covers the rent.

Everything changes when Jazz sees the chance to commit the perfect crime, with a reward too lucrative to turn down. But pulling off the impossible is just the start of her problems, as she learns that she's stepped square into a conspiracy for control of Artemis itself - and that now her only chance at survival lies in a gambit even riskier than the first.

Bringing to life Weir's brash, whip-smart protagonist is actress Rosario Dawson (Marvel's The Defenders, Sin City, Death Proof). With the breathless immediacy of one realizing they're one cracked helmet visor away from oblivion, Dawson deftly captures Jazz's first-person perspective – all while delivering sarcastic Weir-ian one-liners and cracking wise in the face of death. And with a cast of diverse characters from all walks of life calling Artemis home, Dawson tonally somersaults to voice Kenyan prime ministers, Ukrainian scientists, and Saudi welders. It's a performance that transports listeners right alongside Jazz, matching her step for step on every lunar inch of her pulse-pounding journey.

good & fun SciFi Thriller - but not 'The Moonette'

I almost listened to the Audiobook in one go, that is how much I enjoyed both the story and Rosario Dawson as Speaker.
I love the basic idea, the book is funny and extremely thrilling until the very end. Granted, at some point the jokes of the main character Jazz tend to become a bit annoying, but it's still well within my tolerance level.
The one real crime this (audio-)book is guilty of is: not being 'The Martian'. Because logically that is what people are comparing it to. And specifically those who loved the Weir's 1st book seem to have a hard time liking this one.
Weir's 1st book was exceptional. Artemis is certainly not as ground-breaking but that doesn't make it bad.
In short, if you loved the Martian, don't think of Artemis as 'Martian II'. Don't event think of it as Weir's 2nd book. Instead, image it was written by another author like e.g. Michael Crichton and ask yourself how that would change your expectation. If you do that and judge the book on its own, I'm pretty sure you will enjoy Artemis!

Great Popcorn Science Fiction

It's refreshing to see a resurgence of true science fiction stories - meaning stories that actually somewhat science-based. This book is good example: informative but not boring; simplified without being stupid. Great Performance also.

Didn‘t get the vibe

The story is ok, but it never really grabbed me. Missed the whit and sarcasm of the Martian.

Awesome mix of weir and dawson

All the Stars to one of the best main characters in a long while.
Rosario Dawson brings a flawed and likeable Jazmin to the ear, together with the POV style really put me on the moon.

Herausragend!

Hard scifi at its best, characters unconvincing.

Can't wait for Weirs next book. He hasn't quite nailed how characters interplay. Psychological development of characters is somewhat implausible. Also some

I listened to this over three days and it was entertaining. I like scifi and the comedy wasn't awkward. her reading of the characters voices was also cute. overall pretty good book!
