Aquinas at Prayer draws attention to important aspects of Aquinas's life and work which have been all too often overlooked or forgotten. Today Aquinas is almost exclusively regarded as an outstanding scholastic philosopher and theologian. But what is little known is that Aquinas was, first and last, a teacher of the Bible - a Master of the Sacred Page. Moreover there is a distinctly mystical character to his theology. And, as a writer, he was not only a poet but, arguably, the greatest Latin poet of the Middle Ages.
The primary focus of this most engaging new book is to explore the question of Aquinas's own practice of prayer and his teaching on prayer in his commentaries on the Psalms and St Paul. The book is strengthened by quotations from Aquinas in fresh translations.

Outstanding
This book is incredibly insightful and illuminating! As Fr. Murray shares the fruits of his careful and thorough research into St Thomas Aquinas's prayer life, one feels as though one truly penetrates into the little known mind and heart of this great saint and scholar, so full of love and longing for his Lord, I am a lay theologian who spends much time studying St Thomas, and this book has immeasurably enriched my reading and renewed my intention to practise theology not as a mere exercise of the mind but as an expression of desire for the loved One.
I urge any student of St Thomas to read/listen to this book, in order to become better acquainted with the spirit that animates his writings. Further, those who have encountered St Thomas but have been intimidated or put off by what they judge to be too cold and scholastic a style, will, I hope, come to appreciate his writings and his style as an expression of holiness, of profound humility and earnest desire for the truth who is a Person.
The author narrates his own work in a delicate, measured, and mellifluous manner.
