Ian Fleming was born in London in 1908. He was educated at Eton and worked as a journalist in Moscow and a banker and stockbroker in London before becoming personal assistant to the Director of Naval Intelligence during the Second World War. He wrote his first Bond novel, Casino Royale, in 1952 at Goldeneye, his home in Jamaica. Since then James Bond has gone on to become a global phenomenon.
Dan Stevens is internationally known for his role as Matthew Crawley in the hit television drama Downton Abbey, and more recently he has starred in films including Summer In February, The Fifth Estate, A Walk Among the Tombstones, The Guest, The Cobbler and Night At The Museum 3. Dan’s other screen work includes Vamps, Hilde, Sense & Sensibility, Maxwell and The Line of Beauty, and his theatre work includes The Heiress on Broadway, and Arcadia, Every Good Boy Deserves Favour, The Vortex and Hay Fever in London.

Excellent reading of a great book
Like many, I was more familiar with the Bond films than the books. This is an excellent book, the story divided into 3 parts, which combine nicely together.
Always something new to discover in the books, which adds to the experience.

I was surprised
I'd never read a Bond novel before, and I was surprised at the literary quality of the writing. The novel is very uneven - long explanations of post-war intelligence networks, followed by long descriptions of casinos and gaming. But it all works, for me, and the last quarter of the novel, with Bond and Vesper in the little French hotel and the tragic trajectory of their love story was unexpectedly sensitive and wise. Sure, Fleming is a sexist, but he isn't ONLY a sexist; there's more to him.
Dan Stevens' reading is excellent, as one would expect of him.

Fantastic James Bond story and terrific narrator
Hat Ihnen Dan Stevens an der Geschichte etwas vermittelt, was Sie vielleicht beim Selberlesen gar nicht bemerkt hätten?
definitely! I bought the book many years ago. But now with the audio book the story comes alive

1000 times better than the movies
Was hat Ihnen am allerbesten an Casino Royale (with Interview) gefallen?
The book is much better than the movies. You get insights into Bond's feelings that a camera or actor never could deliver in this detailed way. The audio book is compelling, and Dan Steven's voice is a pleasure to listen to.

Dan Stevens - superb, Story weird
Dan Stevens performs marvelous. I mainly listened to this book because of him.
To read James Bond rather than only see him in films was an interesting but disappointing experience. The structure of the book was weird. Spoiler alert: One third of the book is about the casino games, another third about the abduction and torture by Le Chiffre and the last third is a depressing love story with an abrupt ending.
The last words of the book sum up Flemmings opinion on women…“the bitch is dead“
