boring
to be honest quite boring. i was looking forward to the end. marquez is a good writer but the story did not convice me.

Good language, bad story and protagonist
I belong to the camp that dislikes this book a lot. The language depiction is good and very much from a eidetic memory owner. Every now and then a witted and sometimes pretentious quote of wisdom pops up. Márquez has written a huge and boasted narration of a rather simple story. It just contains a lot of unwanted details that doesn't promote the story at all.
But the biggest let-down is from our protagonist Florentino Ariza, even some may argue he is just a symbolic figure and should not be taken literall. He is a repugnant character and whose portrait by Javier Bardem in the film doesn't improve his image a single little bit.
All in all, wasted 15 hours by this story.
